My grandad was 66 when he died. His name Sampson Maynard Hall, no father on birth cert 1917. Would like to know any siblings he had. His father was Walter Hall married to Emily Hiom (1911 19th march). was told he had a younger sister Rachel, and an older brother possibly archie maybe stanley..... have 1 address 562 caledonian road.... im trying again after a fair amount of years.... just cant afford all the subs they have now :-(

The GRO Index only goes up to 1917 as mmn are on Freebmd by then.

If there is no father named on Arthur's birth certificate as well as on Sampson's then I wouldn't be surprised if Arthur's father's surname wasn't Wheeler and Sampson's father wasn't Maynard.

Illegitimate children were often given their father's surnames as middle names as a way of identifying the father without actually naming them.

If there was no father named on your father's birth certificate that would suggest to me that Emily's husband was not his father. If he was the father he would surely have been named on his son's birth certificate.
