Hi ErikaH
Thank you for all the info on the Ropers.
How you get the details for 1939 is brilliant.
The Heigolds is interesting as we know two families called Heigold. One used to live next door! You never know, may be related.
We have info for the Ropers up to 1926:
Sarah Beaman married John Thomas Roper in 1905. They had William (1906), Joseph (1907), Winifred (1908 d1908), Thomas (1909 d1909), Mary Lily (1910 d1911), Elizabeth (1912, d1912), female and male unnamed (1913 d1913), Agnes (1914 d1914), John (1916), Florence E (1917 d1917), Edward (1922), George (1924), Alexander (1926). Finding the deaths of the children was easy(ish), it is when they move on that they seem to disappear.
Feel very sorry for them with the number of deaths, but suppose it was a sign of the times.
Sarah lived to a good age. Her dad died in Rotherham in 1944, aged 85.
Clara, Sarah's older sister, had similar problems with deaths. Her and her first husband, John Davison (m1986 Sunderland), had Thomas Davison(1890 Seaham Harbour, assume to a different wife as Clara would only have been 11 then), Margaret Ann Davison (1897, Royston), William Davison (1898, Crofton), John Edward Davison (1899, Monk Bretton), she then married John Edward Trueman (1903, Leeds) and they had Alice (1904), Albert (1905), Agnes (1907) Winifred (1908 d1918), Robert (1909 d1909), William (1911 d1911), Lawrence (1911 d1911), Herbert (1912 d1912). Clara then died in 1912.
Once again, thank you for your time and effort into finding this info. We only have the standard platinum membership of Genes, so maybe need to invest in other available search areas.

Genes is not the best place for research
Most people just have basic membership here and use it as a sounding board.

Hi ErikaH
Anything you would recommend that is better than Genes?

ErikaH Report 1 Mar 2019 16:07

I use both Find my Past and Ancestry.co.uk

Both cost over £100 per year, although you can get a two week free trial with Ancestry if you register your credit card with them. Don't forget to cancel if you go down that route!

But people on here love to help, so unless you particularly want to find the info yourself, (many people do) post your specific queries and see what happens

Denise

Denise Report 1 Mar 2019 16:53

Thank you.
Will have a look at both of them.
Ancestry seems good with the trial period.
If you are willing to help (but please don't go out of your way) then any info on:
John Davison b1873, Seaham Harbour.
Think he died in 1907 in Tynemouth.
Know about his parents, Matthew and Isabella and siblings.
Mainly info on:
He married Clara Beaman in Sunderland in 1896.
They had Thomas (b1890 or 1894 Seaham Harbour or Nostel) (think to a different wife as Cara would be too young at 11/15 and unmarried or maybe?).
Margaret Ann Davison (b1897 Royston, Barnsley).
William Davison (b1898 Crofton, Wakefield).
John Edward Davison (b1899, Monk Bretton, Barnsley).
Know about John Edward as grandfather but he wouldn't talk about his family, so all a blank about others.
They don't come up on Genes on any searches we've done and visited Rotherham archives and no mention there.
Only know as a child that Aunty Maggie used to visit, so assume it was Margaret Ann Davison.
Have written down the 1901 census for the family, but it doesn't come up on Genes at all. There was John, Clara, Thomas, Margaret, John Edward, William, Edward Beaman (father in law), Winifred Beaman (mother in law), Sarah Beaman (eventual Sarah Roper).
Know in 1911 that John Edward was living with Edward Beaman and Winifred Beaman (though she died in April 1911) at 2 Tusmore St, Rotherham. We've info on 1911 for Clara and family.
Don't know what happened to John and Clara after 1901 except they were no longer together and think John went back to the North East (possibly parents). Clara married a John Edward Trueman (lots of info on this now from another member).
Much appreciated what you have done so far.
Just a point in the right direction will do. Don't expect you to do all the work.

Hi ErikaH
1901 Census. Ah, spellings make all the difference!
Thank you so much.

Denise

Denise Report 1 Mar 2019 17:18

Yes she was born in 1879/1880, so 1891 census would be correct.
Looks like the 1901 census filled in wrongly' maybe to make Thomas look legitimate?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 1 Mar 2019 17:26

Neither Thomas nor Margaret can be Clara's children unless she was giving birth at the age of approx 13

Possibly be Margaret's mother as in 1897 she would have been 17/18. Wonder if the marriage had to be due to pregnancy. definitely not mother of Thomas.
Found that Edward Beaman married a Winifred (according to birth of Sarah, mother's maiden name was Tanzie but could be a Tansey if misspelt).
