The man who married Netherton apparently died in 1910, although I can't see any record to back up the suggestion

Name: Alfred John Howe
Gender: Male
Age: 6
Birth Date: Jul 1878
Admission Date: 8 Dec 1884
School: Union Street School
Father: William Howe

HOWE, ALFRED JOHN MILLER
GRO Reference: 1878 S Quarter in SAINT OLAVE SOUTHWARK Volume 01D Page 311

The children of the Howe/Netherton marriage were with their maternal grandmother in 1911

In all honesty, I think this is a 'dead end'

It does seem that Douglas was illegitimate and his mum registered his birth with some false information to cover it up

Maybe as he was fostered out to a fairly local lady it was soon after his birth as his mum is back in Poplar by 1914

Different sides of the Thames !

I was born in the Greenwich area and lived there to the 1960,s so am very familiar with that area of south east London
