This is the latest reply I have received from GR Support Team :-

Dear Hugh

Thank you for your email.

Firstly with regard to your query regarding disappearing data, our technical team are currently working on developing a new family tree program to be used on the site. As such, any current issues will not be be fixed immediately as their resources are being focused on the new tree.

In terms of the new marriage on the tree, would you be able to advise me on the details of the individuals you are trying to enter the marriage for (names and year of birth). I can then take a look at your tree and offer you some more accurate advice.

Can you also let me know the email address which your account is under so that I can locate the tree.

I look forward to hearing from you,

With kind regards,

Laurie Spence

Hugh - this comment in the reply you received sends shivers down my spine:-

"our technical team are currently working on developing a new family tree program to be used on the site"

I can recall, and I am sure may others can, the nightmare that lasted from mid December 2012 to mid March 2013 when they changed the tree and to this day we still have problems with that tree, such as marriage data failing to save :-(

I had this problem (marriage details vanishing) years ago.... at least eight years.

I contacted the support team... can't remember the exact response, but it was the (now) expected...... what browser are you using, etc etc etc.

I haven't noticed any details missing lately, but I don't use the tree much now.

There you go........ the problem has been around for years, and still hasn't been fixed!

GR say there are many problems, most can't be fixed? Tell us something we don't know!

I wonder what new/new/old/new/whatever tree they've got in mind for the next one...... which will eventually be replaced.

Am I a cynic? NO! Realistic.

OFITG

I just read your post about going back and forward from your info on SP & your tree.

Open your documents on SP and right click...... a box will appear, one option is email......... email them to yourself, and they should be easier to find. Title the emails Birth/Marriage/Death/Census & then surnames first, so they are easy to locate.

Keep them somewhere safe! I had loads stuck in outlook express which vanished when I compacted email. One of these days I will get them all on a cloud.

Thanks LadyScozz <3 in view of those royal connections in your earlier post on the "Why not a Scottish" thread, perhaps I should call you Ma'am :-D

What I have been doing, is downloading the images, and saving them to my external hard drive, at some point I will also put them all on a memory stick and send them to the son of one of my nieces who is doing research into the family.

I am still waiting on the response Shelley the Community Manager was going to get regarding the issues I raised on this and other threads, methinks by the time that response is forthcoming I will probably have popped my clogs :-D

lol.... I've already responded to Robert on the Scottish thread about that.........I don't need to be addressed as ma'am........ and I rarely use the title of Lady rofl :-D

On the subject of memory sticks......... I bought one last week; never used one before and have no idea what to do with it! No instructions came with it. :-( I'm not stupid, just haven't used one before now........

if anyone laughs at that.......... how did YOU find out?

I appreciate the scepticism of some members re. the software rewrite, especially from their experiences of previous updates. However, with fingers crossed, it seems that a total rewrite is the only way to go if the numerous reported problems, some of which (like disappearing data) make people's trees pretty useless, are to be cured.

My one big fear is whether existing data will migrate successfully to the new tree, whenever it's ready!

sorry I laughed Catherine, why have you bought a memory stick without knowledge on how it works?

I haven't used my tree on here much for ages.. in fact I complained when they gave the matching trees names after the surname of the person and if you are matched up six people with the surname Genes.. then you don't know which one to choose and they changed that one.

However, I just added a spouse to one of the blokes and that added and then I went over to the details and put in the marriage date and saved. Closed the page and went back and it is all there.. I wonder why mine works and others do not.. obviously it can work. I think along the principle if this kiwi can anyone can. I will have another look tomorrow just to make sure. :-S
