I notice the same effect as Von.. As usual it is those with tens of thousands of posts who are having major problems.

If Genes didn't have the problem how come all of us all over the world with different ISP all experienced the same problem at the same time?

Kense not the case the small thread ie Mersey's daily thread has had many problems too

I'm finding that when attempting to post it often says there is an error click on GR

and the emotions are very slow lighting up

It is not the size of the threads so much as the total number of post that a poster has made in all threads, that is the significant factor. Everyone who was complaining about not being able to access threads has over 10000 posts to their credit.

I didn't try accessing my tree so I can't say whether I had a problem there. That probably depends on tree size.

Obviously there was something unusual at the GR end that was limiting the usual access.

Think of the meaning of internet. It is a net with many pathways of wildly varying speeds. Many major sites have multiple servers all over the planet so as to iron out service delays. GR/FMP do not do this.

The result is periodic service delays which can be caused as much by traffic shaping in the intervening networks as the target server. Internet traffic equality is a myth. Small players get squeezed.

By and large a faster connection will get better results. For instance my GR tree with 8000 nodes loads fully in 12 secs on a smartphone with wifi but 4 secs using a desktop and 1G cable.

Morning Peeps,

This is my first log on this morning and I got the Error page. I clicked on Customer Support and got a GR page up and then clicked on Community and eventually got here.

So how has it been working during the night??

I had a problem renewing, earlier this week.

....GR said it was their fault.....

They're probably not correct. ;-)

Edit: By the way is anyone occasionally losing the info under the avatars?

I've had no problems getting on for the last several weeks.

and my sub was renewed with no problems overnight

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 9 Sep 2017 21:29

GR have admitted by email that it is their end that has caused the problem

Look on the bright side...at least we're no longer getting the blanket reply from GR of "Clear cookies, clear cache, and change browser" ;-)

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 9 Sep 2017 21:46

Well I did say don't send me your standard answer cos I have done all those things ;-)

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 9 Sep 2017 23:46

...you probably didn't do 'those things' in the right nerdy order, LaGooner :-D :-D :-D

It's amazing how much problems with the internet are blamed on the users - IT nerds hate admitting they're cr*p at their job!!

I do temp work - and have been employed as a temp 7 times by the Council - true by different departments, but it's amazing how often they say 'I' haven't done something - assuming I'm new to the job. I point out I have done x y or z - but if they don't press the right button, it won't work!!

My current 'connecting to the system' was hilarious - I'm now 'myname6@a council' - and they can't work out if I'm 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. I point out I'm all of them, but it's probably more logical to use the highest number, as that's more likely to be the latest.!!
I was connected after three weeks.......

Allan Report 9 Sep 2017 23:49

lol, Maggie,

It's a pity the temp position was only for two weeks :-D :-D :-D
