1st Sunday of Advent is 2 December this year.
They’re waaaaaay too early!

Caroline Report 10 Nov 2018 17:40

People here in Canada will put the lights up outside early because it's getting cold, but far far too early to turn on or have inside things up.
As a kid I knew it was almost Christmas as about a week before you'd see the lights going up on the local business buildings etc....now it's almost mixing with the back to school stuff!!

Are they definitely Christmas lights and not for Divali or another festival?

I agree, way too early to decorate for Christmas yet.

Denburybob

Denburybob Report 10 Nov 2018 20:36

I have a theory that the sadder people's lives are, the longer they have the decorations up for. Both before and after Christmas. That is just me though, cynical old b****r that I am.

maggiewinchester Report 10 Nov 2018 22:52

Well, apparently, my children, partners and grandchildren will be descending on me on 21 - 23 December :-S
Edit: That will be 9 - and me - 10, I have 4 dining chairs, a wicker chair and a stool.
another edit: I have another wicker chair (hidden under 'stuff' in my bedroom, and an antique piano stool - oh, and a camping chair. But a fairly small table.

I suppose I'll have to put the decorations and tree up, sometime before, and provide something other than cottage pie for dinner :-|

we put decorations up in the first week of december

but im thinking this year i may need some new one as you have all thease nice new fancey ones in the shops

now looking at mine thay are looking a little on the retro side

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 10 Nov 2018 23:38

Ah, but your decorations could now be considered 'retro; and very 'in'.

Spend the money on your curtains - you look at them every day.
Christmas decorations are seen for a month at most! :-D :-D
