Regarding the UK's exemption from the USA's travel ban, I found the following article interesting

https://tinyurl.com/uwq6qu8

And I'm in line to receive $750.00 as part of the Australian Government's Covid19 economic stimulus package.....however the money wont be spent on loo rolls because I couldn't be bothered queuing up at 5.00 am waiting for the stores to open at 8.00am

Just completed my YouGov survey re the coronavirus and overall I'm content with the government's actions to date.

I'd rather defer to expert knowledge than random opinions.

We all have a responsibility to safeguard ourselves and others close to us. No authority can guarantee our safety and it's obvious from remarks here and elsewhere that whatever action our government takes it will be criticised.

My son is supposed to be in Berlin from tomorrow on his mate's stag weekend!

He is packed ready to leave but still dithering, he should leave here at 2am! His fiancee and I both think he should stay home and not risk anything.

Silly man didn't take out insurance till 2 days ago so will probably lose his £220 but I think his health and the fact that he has a 'stepson' of 11 with diabetes isn't worth taking the chance

All businesses will suffer a penalty one way or another as will many employees.

A company with 200 employees is far better placed to survive this than a company (or family concern) with a dozen or so staff. If it doesn't there is something wrong with their management planning and execution for many different scenarios not just Coronavirus.

We run a small business and cope ok. We are not millionaires but we earn a living and do not need to boast about it :-D

Coronavirus divides tech workers into the 'worthy' and 'unworthy' sick. (The Guardian).

Lots of statistics, lots of references to "elderly", "underlying health conditions" ...( in reports/news etc)

Just maybe a gentle reminder that ( in possibly the one time Boris said something accurate, that I agreed with when he said "loved ones" ) each of those statistics is a real person, a "loved one" a father, mother, grandparent, brother, sister, child, to someone.

Being 'old' is not the same as being dispensable.

Be kind while you can. :-)

Posted on behalf of a site member who is not able to post but has been reading,

"My mil is 95, increasingly frail & has dementia. She lives in a care home. She looks forward to visits from sister in law & us, between us, 3 times a week. One of her grandchildren will visit once a month. Although She may not remember who they are, she enjoys the interaction they provide either with her grt grandchildren or the others family dog.

The home has closed its doors to friends, family & outside entertainers in an attempt to protect its residents.

Although we understand the reasoning, we feel sad that we may never have another chance to show that we ‘care’. She’ll feel that she’s been abandoned. The home has said that we can phone or Skype, which will be interesting as she can’t hear.

Although OH can be pragmatic, SiL will be in bits if she doesn’t have the chance to say ‘goodbye’. "

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 13 Mar 2020 12:09

That is so sad Rose but I can see the logic in trying to keep the residents safe :-(
