ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 1 Mar 2016 21:33

If Mary Mee was Scottish, then this could be her birth:

1915 MEE MARY ANN BURNS F
BRIDGETON GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/01 0584

Credits on SP will let you see all the details - parents' names, and marriage place and date, etc.

And, as has been said before, her marriage cert will give her parents' names, so you can see if this is the same person.

JoonieCloonie Report 2 Mar 2016 03:13

ArgyllGran she would have been a child bride if born 1915!

marriage was in 1939 :-)

Dave, duplicate threads, oh no

You can edit the subject line of this thread - 'john' is pretty useless anyway - and make it 'John Mee Abbott'

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 2 Mar 2016 15:47

JC -
If born 1915, she would have been 23 or 24 in 1939.

Dave said the marriage cert said she was 23 .

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 2 Mar 2016 16:22

posting while asleep :-D

No wonder I hadn't found a likely birth when I was searching between 1900 and 1912 ... and I was awake at the time ...

and I had actually missed Dave's post saying she was 23 at marriage

... using that reverse post date function and I'm not used to it and now I'm going to stop!

So that's the parents' marriage and births, and John's birth. Doing well.

Can you PM me his birth date? Does the month and day match for the death in Wakefield?

Rose

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 5 Mar 2016 22:47

The full name is unusual enough that it seems very likely that the death is for Dave's John, I would be sorry to say

if that death matches with the marriage Ann posted, there were five children to that marriage and the eldest is in several trees at this site, some of them probably belonging to the child themself and other trees belonging to the child's children

the electoral roll does not show a John Abbott living with the spouse in that marriage in the last 15 years

Dave, you can just say publicly whether the day and month of birth on the birth certificate you got matches the birthdate on that 1991 death record, as yes or no

since it it is yes, it would really seem that was his death with his year of birth being an error

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 7 Mar 2016 00:06

ooops, Dave, what we were getting at was not to post the actual birthdate unless it matched that death - it doesn't match (although the day of the month does) so it would be better to remove that date from your post ... but it is still an odd coincidence.

Ancestry does not provide the image for the death registration so it can't be checked to see whether it was transcribed correctly.

I am going to send you privately the children of the 1966 marriage and you can search for their names in trees here, and you will see that all three of them have trees here with their names in them

you could try contacting them to ask whether their John is your John

I didn't come back to this thread in time to see what birth date Dave posted.

JC, you say the day of the month matches. Do you mean the month doesn't?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 7 Mar 2016 13:47

Thanks for PM'ing me the birth date, Dave.

In spite of the discrepancies, if it were me, I would be inclined to buy a copy of that Wakefield death cert, to see what other information is on it.
Perhaps the informant gave wrong info to the registrar - or the registrar wrote it down wrongly - or maybe it's been mistranscribed on Ancestry.

As far as I can see, there was only one John Mee Abbot(t) born 1940-48, in Scotland / England / Wales - ie - yours.
In England, there was one John M Abbott birth registered in the last quarter of 1942, so there's an outside chance that could be the one who died in Wakefield, as we don't know what the M stood for.
But if not, then I tend to think the Wakefield one is your John - especially in light of what JC said earlier (5th March, 22:47) about the electoral roll..

(It's a pity you clicked "answered", presumably because you had replied to my query re the DOB. It's a bad feature of GR, which many of us have been complaining about for years. It should only be clicked when YOUR query has been answered to your satisfaction - and, unfortunately, is irreversible.)

Hi what info would be on death cert would it have parents name on or his birthdate dave

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 7 Mar 2016 15:02

the death certificate would have the date of birth and the name of the person who registered the death, so if the date of birth is what the index says it is, it won't tell you anything new

actually I am not sure about modern death certificates, do they give a place of birth?

not parents' names though, on English certificates

The information I sent you privately was confused ... seems to be my thing in this thread :-)

the names I gave you are actually *grandchildren* of the 1966 marriage, and it is they who have their own names and their parent's name (the eldest child) in their trees

(all of them, including the parent, have multiple trees here)

Dave has said he will try to contact them to ask whether their John is his John.

JoonieCloonie Report 10 Mar 2016 14:54

Dave I'll try again!

why not try contacting the several people at this site who are descended from the man who married in 1966 in Wakefield and died there in 1991?

to ask them whether their John is the John who was born in Scotland
