Hi Phil

As a rule I never log out of any sites I visit but recently I have to keep logging in here and I am aware that other members are experiencing the same problem. Sometimes I haven't even navigated away from the site. It isn't my browser because it has now happened on Safari, IE8, Firefox and Chrome

Can you confirm whether or not this is a temporary thing due to update being worked on behind the scenes.

I have to say it is really annoying.

Cynthia Report 2 Jun 2011 12:48

I'm one who is having the same problem Toots. Hope Phil has an answer to the problem. Cx

GlitterBaby Report 2 Jun 2011 12:57

Yes me too

TootyFruity Report 2 Jun 2011 13:04

May be it's a ploy to get me back to work :-D

Or maybe I should get out more lol

AnninGlos Report 2 Jun 2011 13:14

Yes, me too, I don't mind first thing in the morning but it does get a bit wearing when I return to Genes after ten minutes and have to log in again. Also when I try to click from an e mail advising me of a message, it used to take me straight in, now I am finding I have to log in yet again.

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Jun 2011 18:24

I'm having to log in after the computer has been shut down

I never log out, and I usually can click on Favourites and am right in GR.

But I have had to log in every time for the last 4 or 5 days.

Haven't yet had to log in anew while still on the site

jax Report 2 Jun 2011 19:03

I can log in ok but the only boards I can get on is this one and general chat, all the others say sorry maintenance ect

TootyFruity Report 2 Jun 2011 19:15

All the boards are working for me at the moment.

And touch wood, I haven't been logged out automatically for awhile either

TootyFruity Report 2 Jun 2011 21:15

I spoke to soon.

Logged me out again

SylviaInCanada Report 3 Jun 2011 04:14

I got logged out this morning when I closed the site down for a while

previously it had happened only when I turned the computer off.

getting to be very annoying!

philmoir Advisor Report 3 Jun 2011 16:04

Just to let you know, we deployed some major infrastructure changes (physical servers and code change) at the end of last week. All in all it went pretty smoothly, but this is one outstanding issue that we are trying to resolve as quickly as we can. Thanks for keeping us informed and we will let you know as soon as a fix is applied.
Regards - Phil

AnninGlos Report 3 Jun 2011 16:35

Thanks Phil

Maybe it would help in future if we could be warned in advance that strange things might happen. (i.e. when maintenance or changes are undertaken.) We would not them bombard you with requests for help.

YorkshireCaz Report 3 Jun 2011 18:22

Yes thanks Phil, I was getting ready to not put GR on again, it's not worth the wear on my nerves, over 15 minutes it took to open a pm this morning, that's after I had to sign in again to open it. It's only started since the emoticons were put on, co-incidence? or not I don't know.

Joy Report 3 Jun 2011 18:35

Ditto what Ann and Caz said.

Too slow to stay any longer.

Lindsey* Report 3 Jun 2011 18:46

I've had to come in through GR NZ to resume normal service , click on the flag below. Anything else is giving me error /maintenance pages!

JaneyCanuck Report 3 Jun 2011 18:53

In case it helps to know (and I don't in any way mean this to sound like "well it never happens to me ...") ... it never happens to me. ;-)

I've only ever been involuntarily logged off about twice in history, not recently. I'd wonder whether this has to do with my location somehow, except that it does happen to SylviaInCanada.

I actually haven't had any problems with the site at all in the last few days ... a very short period of the "down for maintenance" message, but that's all.

Of course, I did clear my cache twice in the last few days. Snork.

JaneyCanuck Report 3 Jun 2011 18:59

Oh -- Phil. There's a load of people on General Chat who never look here, and are forever starting threads about these things. (Also on Genealogy Chat, heh.)

You might want to keep an eye out and add a note there, too.

TootyFruity Report 3 Jun 2011 19:05

My iPad automatically clears the cache and yet I still keep getting logged out even when I have not navigated away from the site. Sometime I have just changed board to be asked to sign back in.

My laptop also automatically clears the cache daily because I have set it up that way

I have still be experiencing problems however I have only had to log back in again twice today so thats not too bad. Sometimes the site is slow other times it's okay and I haven't done anything different and it can be within a short period of time.

Obviously it is going to take time to sort and I will just have to practice the virtue of patience ;-)

SylviaInCanada Report 3 Jun 2011 20:03

I had to log in again this morning

I'm pretty certain that Janey and I do not have the same server .............. we're separated by about 3000 klicks!

JaneyCanuck Report 3 Jun 2011 20:47

I thought my very *foreignness* might actually be giving me some protection here (as compared to making me a target as it usually does. ;-) )

But since the problem would really have to be at GR's end, that wouldn't make any sense anyhow ...

Has anybody tried pinging GR to see whether there's a problem that shows up?

In Windows, do this

Open the command window by clicking START, then RUN. Type CMD, and press Enter or click OK.

press "Enter"

see pingOutput

I just did it and got

Request timed out

Same for

When I ping, I get a response immediately.
... and timed out on pinging ... and
... got a reply from immediately
... timed out on pinging another discussion board, got a reply from Parliament ... stupidly random, it seems ... but I'm getting replies from Cdn sites and not others maybe

That's the limit of my geekspeak. Phil??
