I wouldn't have been surprised Jonesey - some of mine were a rum lot by all accounts ;-)

Have just been thinking how invaluable my pressure cooker is - especially in this weather. Steak /kidney and veg hissing away as I type. Dumplings to go in shortly.
:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

May be out at you know where later but it depends on the weather cos I really don't want OH going base over apex!!

It's pleasing to see how some names are used over and over in families.
On Mother's side of my tree Thomas and Alice and Henry were often used over three generations.
On Father's side of my tree Samuel is used three times in two generations as is Rosanne,my GGM',s name.
Her maiden name was Galloway. My GF's second Christian name was Galway as was my Father's and is mine.

Interestingly I never used my second Christian name until after Father died.

I suspect that Galway from Galloway is more than a coincidence

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 13 Feb 2013 19:03

Ooooh David, it drives me mad that they keep using the same names because it's so easy to get confused between the generations. At least Galway is an unusual name so it will help a bit.

Doesn't look like we are going out....... :-(

At least the snow is melting quite quickly..... :-D

On Mother's side of my tree my ancestors all had large families
(not unusual before the invention of electricity and radio and TV)

My GGF and GGGF were waternen on the River Tyne.
Must have been hard work at the best of times but more so when they had to row.

Don't you just love the way names were used through you the generations.
Especially the way the Scottish naming system worked.

My lot named sons after a son who had died when less than a year old. The 2nd son then died when he was about 10 years. His mother (my GG) asked her daughter not to use the name for her son.

Then we have the scenario where two brothers each name their first son after their father.

Sometimes this helps sometimes it hinders but hey that's part of the fun.

It started to snow at 4.30am. How so I know cos my sons car alarm went off from 2.30am till 5.30am and its right under our bedroom window :-|

It had reset itself by the time we got up to "bleep" it EVERY TIME it isnt too loud and lasts about 30 seconds and he has had it in the garage to be checked and its booked in again for Monday.

tonight he will disconnect the battery ;-)

We now have rain which has melted all the snow.

I was planning on sleeping in until other son phoned and asked us to watch GD for a couple of hours

Linda

Linda Report 13 Feb 2013 20:17

Just to finish off my perfect day.

Ours sons had got us vouchers to book a couple of nights away and they are up at the end of March so we thought we had better try and find something.

OH fancied going to Oban so we find one we liked the look of. I phoned on Sunday night and spoke to a lovely lady who was really helpful and even gave us th honeymoon suite!

I got a call this morning to cancel as there had been a sudden death in the family.
the lady I had spoken to had collasped and died :-(
Poor woman and it seems that her OH isn't in the best of health.

So tomorrows job is try and find something else or try and get the voucher company to replace the vouchers.

I am now working my way through a bag of giant white chocolate buttons ;-)

Good morning everyone........Happy Valentine's Day....and thank you for thinking of us Jonesey :-D <3 :-D

OH actually remembered it was 14th before I did. We gave up exchanging cards and gifts many moons ago.

Thank you for breakfast Dea....much appreciated as I have been doing that dreaded thing called housework since 7.30am.... ;-)

Hoping to take my friend out this afternoon - she wants some new bathroom curtains but I am going to see if she would fancy trying getting a blind instead.

Quick browse and then a shower....~~~~

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 14 Feb 2013 09:34

Ooooer......just been for a browse round and see that there was trouble a'mill last night... :-0

Don't know what was posted but it seems as though lots of threads got rr'd on the chat board late on. I missed it all 'cos I go to bed at 10.30pm.

There are some items on there which I find unnecessary, but I couldn't be bothered with the faff of reporting them.

I have enough friends who have a .....um....er......'robust and earthy' sense of humour, including my vicar - as some of you know ;-) :-D

Gee

Gee Report 14 Feb 2013 17:38

Keep your fingers crossed for me

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 14 Feb 2013 19:22

And everyone is....where.... :-S

Dea has gone to a donkey sanctuary or somesuch I think.....bet she is having a lie down right now.

Took my friend out this afternoon for her curtain but, as I suspected, it's hard to get hold of bathroom curtains - well, it was where we were anyway! So she bought a kettle instead!

Hope everything goes well tomorrow Gins........
