we also still have daughter's Fisher Price toys ...... in good condition, and with most of the "bits">

MJ played for hours at Easter with the FP school bus and boat, and all the little "people".

Still tucked away downstairs are the bigger FP toys from the 1980s, including the original Castle that was only on the market for 3 or 4 years. That one is worth a fortune on eBay!

OH has his Hornby Dublo train set, most of it from the early 1940s. But NOT in a box, although in good condition. He also has his Meccano, which was a combination of his Father's set from the early 1920s, and the more "modern" 1940s/50s that OH was given. J took that over in her early teens and built some wonderful things. It's waiting for MJ to be older.

Jonesey ................... OH attached the rails for his Hornby set to a large piece of plywood, and set it up so that J could play with it, but only when he was there. So, you don't have to wait for a grandson ;-)

Dea, and C

graduation from Kindergarten and pre-school

another idea imported from the USA :-|

we've had it here for about 7 or 8 years.

It becomes another bit of pressure on parents who cannot afford to buy the photos, or help with the "graduation event and party", yet feel very pressured to do so.

Sorry ................. I'm not in favour of it.

I feel it demeans graduation from High School and uni.

'Proms' from infant school :-0

Money making cr@p

My children had 'prom'..............new outfits, etc........I drew the line at a limo. They all came here and had take out, then went on to the 'prom' in taxi's

......end of

Dea

Dea Report 26 Jun 2013 20:34

OOhhh - You lot !!!

He didn't really have a 'Graduation', or a 'Prom' - I would totally agree with you if he did !!! :-0 - This was just the usual 'end of year' photo but done very nicely with a couple of 'photographer's props' !!

It did worry me though that they had most likely transfered that cap and gown from one child to the other - especially the cap ! :-0 - You never know what might have been transferred from one to the other :-0 :-( :-(

If I manage to get to Liverpool I will bring a copy with me and you will see just how sweet he looked ! :-D

Oh boy am I going to sleep tonight :-)

GD's and Mummy all got colds and coughs baby up till 3am so we ended up with oldest one .

Arrived just after 10 am. Had a ball out in the garden all day.

I got washing done and also managed to get a duvet washed and dried :-)

We left the house just before 4pm to go to the Circus Las Vegas with GD tickets said to be seated by 4.30pm. We got there at 4.10pm.

It started at 5pm two minutes before which GD needs toilet :-(

It went on until 6.10pm then they had a 30 minute break :-(

finished at 7.10pm by which time she was hungry and tired (I had taken yoghurts and fruit and some "bribes".

Got her home for 7.30pm.

She had a ball and was giggling and clapping her hands at some of the artistes was really funny to watch her.

She loved the man on the trampoline who did silly things like losing his glasses and falling down th gap and coming out the other side.

And did she ever laugh when his trousers fell down and you could see his pants she is two and a half!!

OH and I had a chippy which we got at 8pm.

Dea ...............

that's what your grandson had ............

I'm talking about what we now get from kindergarten here in Canada, 5 or 6 years on from that initial "it's only a photograph".

There really is a Graduation.

Parents invoted

Kids tooged up in cap and gown

Walk across a stage, get their "diploma" handed over by a Principal or Vice-Principal

Clapped by everyone

Tea and goodies party afterwards.

I am NOT kidding!

Some kids then get a big present for "graduating" from kindie.

and it all began in the US ........... California, I think!

Nursery pre-school graduation photos are catching on here.

More expense for the parents. I know the little ones will look cute but....

Dea

Dea Report 26 Jun 2013 21:16

OOOOhhh - That is truly awful Sylvs !!!!!!!!!!!

Hope it doesn't catch on here in the near future! :-0

I suppose that this picture though shows that it is about to arrive :-( :-( :-(

Sales on....guess what :-0 :-(

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 26 Jun 2013 21:44

Sylvs, that sounds a dreadful system...........why do parents have to be so keen to see their children grow up to soon? :-(

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 27 Jun 2013 07:12

Cyn ..............

I have no idea!

They end up with the children having no childhood, and growing up too fast.

I've seen photos (in newspapers from the US) of "graduation" from pre-school ....... ie, 3-5 year olds

There's also now a trend for Prom and Graduation from elementary school ............. which for us is around the age of 13 or 14.

So parents have to spend big bucks on Prom Dress fro that as well as the end of High School Prom, 4 or 5 years later.

Heard about 90 minutes ago that OH's niece is in hospital ............... this is the one who visited us yesterday (Tuesday) morning with her 2 little girls.

She said she had tummy pains, but thought she was having problems because she had not been drinking enough water with travelling and staying in hotels for over a week.

It's appendicitis.

her husband took her to the hospital in the city where they are staying. A couple of their friends live not that far away, so they zipped over to the hotel and took charge of the 2 girls (as well as their own 3 month old baby)

Now, she has to stay a surgeon, hopefully tonight.

Good morning......... :-D

Thank you Sylvs......I will stick with porridge again please.

Do hope your niece recovers quickly - what a shock for them all - and how fortunate they had friends within reach.

The graduation thing is obviously another commercial 'ploy' to get people to spend money and, of course, there will be pressure on parents to keep up with everyone else. :-(

Probably off for a walk soon and then I am going to see my friend this afternoon. I had said that I would help her to practice walking on her 'wheely friend' outside but, the forecast says it's going to rain. :-(

Better get my skates on...~~~~~

Linda

Linda Report 27 Jun 2013 12:54

Sylvia hope your niece is ok what a rotten thing to happen good that they have friends close by.

Go a walk? It's pouring here :-(

I am so glad I got the duvet washed yesterday. Have to go into Argos to pick up new set (got a BOGOF ) have also ordered some toys for the garden.

I got a toy lawnmower, a golf set and skittles for less than £9 :-D

That will keep madam busy :-D

Gee

Gee Report 27 Jun 2013 16:59

Well the weather is pants...rain rain rain

Glad I didn't put the washing out.

Totally wiped out today, these early nights don't seem to be working. Maybe I should stay up late, go clubbing and see if that works

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 27 Jun 2013 18:37

Yep......went for a walk and it was beautiful. The rain came later :-D

When I came home, I started to open my new printer in readiness of setting it up. One and a half hours later, I had succeeded...........all connected to the WiFi - all by myself..........takes a bow.. <3

Jonesey, the make begins with an E and ends with an N..... ;-)

I staggered down from doing that, had a quick lunch and was off to visit my friend. It was too wet to go out, so I did a bit of shopping for her and then helped her to tidy the small bedroom cupboard.

Arrived home and spent an hour putting a list together of possible contacts for an upcoming meeting with an MP re autism.

Then a stirfry

and now...................going for a browse to see what's been going on here..... :-)

Oh well I'm off to bed night wall ;-)
