This is the only birth in the GRO at any possibly relevant date:

Mother's Name: Alice
Where born: Crayke, Durham, England
Occupation: Farmer's Son

Civil parish: Luttons Ambo

Father James is Farmer/employer -- obviously not short of a bob. It's conceivable a son of his would have become a professional.

1911

PRINCE JAMES 1880 31 South Shields Durham

Wonder what his occupation was?

Rest of household seems to be:

PRINCE MARY 1882 29 South Shields Durham
PRINCE MARY 1904 7 South Shields Durham
PRINCE ELEANOR 1906 5 South Shields Durham
PRINCE RUTH 1908 3 South Shields Durham

Except I'm not really seeing a marriage to match ...

Thankyou very much ladies! I will start on those n see how i get on... although i have found a divorce for James Edmund Prince and Eva Ada Prince in North Carolina???? I found a James Edmund Prince on New York arrivals... This may just be a coincidence though.... I think Prince must have been a popular name back then! Oh and Janey, i do think you're nice, you've helped me lots ;-)

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 5 Jul 2009 22:54

They would both be a bit out of her age bracket - but I'm thinking maybe not married, eh?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 5 Jul 2009 22:55

Well my my! --

"a divorce for James Edmund Prince and Eva Ada Prince in North Carolina????"

That is just a tad coincidental, isn't it?

Possibly married outside the country too, then?

I'm lovely. Just ask Viv. ;)

Hmm.

REDGRAVE Eva (dob)1886 1910 London Australia Sydney

There isn't an English Eva Redgrave birth to match that DOB, or a marriage of a Redgrave to an Eva. And no other Redgrave accomanied that Eva.

Aaaah, Janey, spookily enough, i have just found E A Prince and J E Prince on unassisted passenger lists 1826-1922 to SYDNEY.......... I am getting ever so confused!!! ;-(

Michelle

Michelle Report 5 Jul 2009 23:31

Viv, my grandad was born in 1918 so do you think this couple is unlikely to be them as this would mean they would have gotten divorced very late in life......

Michelle

Michelle Report 5 Jul 2009 23:42

JaneyCanuck

You have coincidences abounding.

I'd change your subject line. The southern hemisphere brigade will be coming on line sometime, and you could catch their eye about that Australian passenger list.

Make it, I would suggest:

Prince/Redgrave - England, US, Australia?

and then you'll get full attention. ;)

This is probably the same one as I found at FMP - I can't access at Ancestry:

Immigration & Emigration
Name: Miss Eva Redgrave
Port of Arrival: Sydney, New South Wales
Name: Miss Eva Redgrave

The Sidney passengers were on different ships and way out for years.

Janey is only being nice to get use of my ancestry subs!

Mind you I am worried that shes going soft in her old age.
Sending me HUGS???
