Hold on - the marriage to Joass isn't her. A second marriage would be under the first married name.

Search the births index at Ancestry for Bull-Redgrave births.

You'll find nine of them (the first two with the same name, so presumably the first Dorothy died). Up to 1933, most in Warwick, two in Northamptonshire.

OK no specifics. It's all fuzzy searches on ancestry but that helped me find Kathleen and Victoria!! If she is my Eva, which i think looks likely as two of the sisters ended up in Charlton, where my grandad was born! Fingers crossed then ;-)

JaneyCanuck Report 6 Jul 2009 01:33

Interestingly, following on the three girls' births, there are the only other 3 Redgrave events in Chorlton:

Births Jun 1897
Redgrave Norman Linwood Chorlton 8c 880
Deaths Mar 1898
Redgrave Norman Linwood 0 Chorlton 8c 533

Births Sep 1898
Redgrave Charles Henry Chorlton 8c 888

Brothers?

We can track the deceased ones, though. ;)

And you could look for him marrying, and then for his kids -- ditto for marriages and kids for all the Bull-Redgrave sons and daughters. Their kids might well be living now and findable via www.192.com - it's just that their names and details shouldn't be posted here.

Ha, maybe......... but even more interesting is the birth and subsequent death in 1897/1898.... as my grandads name was also Norman..............

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 6 Jul 2009 01:42

deleted info re child of a different Bull-Healey couple; see later post

I think I'll let you do the others ... which might best wait until you're sure of the family connection. ;)

Who were the parents of those Redgrave girls???

Michelle

Michelle Report 6 Jul 2009 01:42

Maybe not if they were unrelated!!! Strange coincidence tho!!

Michelle

Michelle Report 6 Jul 2009 01:46

That's why i am waiting for the birth certificate as i cannot trace the mother or father because there are lots of male and female Redgraves around the same age living in Potterspury at that time! They may even have their fathers surname! ;-)

Cyril married in 1943 and had three children.

Dorothy married in 1945 and had two children.

Someone who matches her husband's name (the only birth by that name in the GRO ever) is on the Electoral Roll 2007-2009 living with someone who doesn't seem to be a child or a spouse, but could be an informal partner maybe.

Michelle Report 6 Jul 2009 02:22

You're too good!!! I have found her husbands name!

I found a poss 2 marriages for Cyril CJ Bull in Northamptonshire. I t may be because it's half past 2 in the morning though!!

Nice try on the subject line. ;)

You have to remove the "Trying to find information on" -- the line is too long and the "Australia" comes out as "A".

You're right - I'd restricted my marriage search by years.

The 1975 spouse still doesn't match the name on the electoral list!

This is interesting, seeing as Eva is in Ashton in 1911:

Marriages Sep 1911
Davies Eric G Ashton 8d 825
***Edwards Harry Ashton 8d 825
***Redgrave Eve Ashton 8d 825
STANLEY Alice Ashton 8d 825

Looks to be a bunch of children for them but there is a gap from 1915-1923 and then there are some more.

Was Norman the result of a wartime romance?

Bet the S is for Seraphina.

This has to be her parents:

Marriages Mar 1892
Linwood Seraphina Newport P. 3a 783
Redgrave Joseph Habgood Newport P. 3a 783

Seraphina is staying with the Redgraves in 1891 (transcribed as Josephine) but she's also listed at her family home. Her father was Norman and so was her brother.

Seraphina remarries in Ashton, although I'm sure Joseph Redgrave was still alive. He was with no other Redgraves in 1911.

Marriages Dec 1913
Halliwell Mary Corlette Ashton 8d 882
Hipwell Joseph Redgrave Ashton 8d 882

I did take a look at that Edwards marriage too -- wondered whether she'd reported his given name rather than his surname on the subsequent certificate. ;)

If she wasn't married to Prince, she might indeed have engaged in a little dissembling!

Wartime romance was what I was thinking at the outset there, and why I went looking for Prince in Cdn WWI enrolments (and 1911 census), to no avail.

Nice "Norman" tie-in on the Linwoods, too.

Hello ladies...

I have found a lot out thankyou very much, i have been hard at it all day!!

Eva Ada Redgrave. I followed the leads re Seraphina Linwood... this MUST be her mother!! I searched births Eva Redgrave with mothers maiden of Linwood and her index came up! Seraphina's father and brother were both called Norman James (my grandad's name!) and where in the Chorlton area in 1901. Eva's father then is Joseph Habgood Redgrave, part of the Potterspury family! I am not quite sure whether they split up, i have found a death in 1903 for a Joseph Redgrave which i will investigate, Seraphina then relocated to Ashton. I followed a lead of marriage for Eve Redgrave marrying Harry Edwards and i have since found a marriage for James Prince with an Edwards on the 1916-2005 register, i am unable to confirm this though as i don't have access.

So, Janey the child that you found, Norman Linwood Redgrave, would have been Eva's brother. Also the name of Amy Lamb Redgrave you suggested would have infact been her auntie! The list of names you gave at the wedding of Amy also includes her mother who became known as Josephine. phew!! Think thats everything!!

So i have to now find any marriages or children for brothers and sisters of Eva's and her parents and try to go back further!

Also, if anyone could please check the marriage listing for James Prince to Edwards i would be very grateful. The only information it gives is that it is in the 1916-2005 records.

Thanks to all of you!!! ;-)
