Cheryle Report 6 Oct 2010 06:47

Hi,
I have just ordered a marriage cert for my husbands grandparents (married 1920 Woollahra)because it has been impossible to find anything out for his grandmother Eileen May Chard in NSW. So in 3 weeks I'll finally know more on her but his grandfather Reginald George Dunn remarried to Phyllis Joan but I dont know her maiden name. I have found some electoral rolls for her after the marriage but how do I find their marriage.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
Cheryle.

Hi Cherilyn..I have found my dads brothers record in the Australian Army. His name is William Mitchell and was born on the 23 Apr 1911 in Manchester England. He enlisted 8 July 1940 at Paddington NSW and locality on enlistment was Kings Cross NSW.His date of discharge was 11 Mar 1941.His next of kin is a Mabel Londen.Would you be able to see if there is a marraige for them please.I dont know who this Mabel is,she could be just a friend but I hope she was his fiance as a photo once existed of him with a young lady.Otherwise could you see if you can find a marraige for him to somebody else and his death...basically anything at all!..thanks ever so much......

Hi Cherilyn
You were kind enough to help me with marriage for my Great Grandmother's sister Elizabeth Seaton to Charles Tanner, a widower born 1816 Bristol, in Prahan in 1854.
The marriage cert stated that Charles had 2 living and 3 dead children by his first wife.
I am investigating a convict by the name of Charles Tanner who was deported for 7 years to Tasmania in 1833. In 1837 he married another convict Sarah Marvin. A son, Charles Tanner died 25.9.1841 age 22 months in Hobart.
Charles was freed in 1840, Sarah in 1843. They may have gone to Sydney.
I was wondering if this is the same Charles Tanner, widower, who married Elizabeth Seaton.
So, Cherilyn, please may I ask if you would mind looking for possible births of children to Charles Tanner/Sarah Marvin between 1840-54 in NSW or Victoria and possible death of Sarah Tanner (Marvin) before 1854.
Regards
Ann

Hi Ann

Yours first as I had the right disk in :)

Surname: TANNER
Given Names: Sarah
Event: D
Father: Unknown
Mother:
Age: 32
Birth Place: LINCOLNSHIRE
Year: 1854
Reg Number: 2634

Seems a good match but no children found in Vic or NSW. Her convict record mentions Lincoln/Kesteven, though it says she was 19 in 1836/7.

Maybe try a lookup volunteer at www.raogk.org for Tasmania?

Also, someone has 'claimed' her at http://www.claimaconvict.net/page54.html
Appears to be a different person who has 'claimed' Chas Tanner:
http://www.claimaconvict.net/page80.html
Might be worth making contact?

Good luck!
:)

Sorry Angela, no matching marriage for Wm to Mabel. And too many deaths for Wm Mitchells so need more info!

Nothing in Vic either.

Hi Cherilyn
Thank you very much for that, I will certainly try to get further and follow up your tips re Sarah.
It may be I am barking up the wrong tree re the convict Charles Tanner but will keep trying.
Since my last contact with you I have found out that Elizabeth Seaton's brother William joined the army in UK in 1841 and spent his first 4 and a half years in Tasmania with the 51st Foot regiment!!
Thanks again.
