been to the LRO today and re-checked registers for Our Lady Oldham

so to refresh our memories this is what I found

25-9-1904 (b1-9-1902) John Edward s of John Edward & Mary (Mangan) sponsor Rose Ann McCarthy

16-4-1905 (b17-1-1905) John Joseph s of John Edward & Mary (Mannion) sponsor Mary Ryland (or Nyland)

16-6-1907 (b14-5-1907) Arthur s of John Edward & Mary (Mannion) sp Matthew Mannion & Elizabeth Cowling)
address 12 Park St - note in margin says married Helen (?) Heywood d of Joseph Heywood

19-12-1909 (b28-10-1909) Rose Ann (or Rosa Anna) d of John & Mary (Leicester) sponsor Alice Kelly
address 12 Bk Park St - note in margin says married Richard (?) Hill s of Samuel Hill

7-4-1912 (b5-3-1912) Thomas s of John E & Mary (Manning) sponsor Mary Hughes
address 32 Cromwell Street

at no time was Mary anything other than just 'Mary' not even Mary E

did not find any other Jones up to 1920

did not find any Leicester pre 1900

possibly Nellie Jones = Ellen Leicester having reverted to her birth name

NO Jones marriages at Our Lady between 1900 & 1930

no Jones or Leicester baptised at St Mary's RC

Well done Ann!

Martyn that's where my thoughts were too. No baptism for the Norman who is on Lancsbmd mmn Leicester in 1905 and no John Joseph born in 1905.(Well not in Oldham anyway -there's one on freebmd reg Manchester)

Bet the registrars had a nightmare with this family too-no wonder there's lots of notes and crossings out in the margins..........

Looking back through the thread I think gene1 got her info from the same baptism entries.

I would guess it is where gene got the info from but I thought it might be useful to be able to see the full details all in one post.

A lot of entries in the RC register had who someone married or when they were confirmed written in the (large) surname box.

I looked at the confirmation register - which seemed to show confirmations every 5 years but only after about 1915 were they in alphabetical order and I was not sure what age they would have been at confirmation. Didn't find anything up to 1930.

hi julie
this family of mine ,what a mess, ann has done brilliant every time there is a new twist or a new child hopefully when the cert comes we will not have another twist!

Jooleh

Jooleh Report 23 Apr 2010 22:52

I know nothing about Oldham. If they moved from 12 Back Park Street (1911) to 32 Cromwell Street (1912) would they have attended a different church?

Ann

It's really helpful to have that info all in one post. I think I was just reminding myself that gene1 doesn't have much more info than us on these siblings in terms of their births & baptisms - if that makes sense........

lancashireAnn Report 23 Apr 2010 23:26

looking at the Oldham churches there seem to be only 2 options for RC at that time, Our Lady of Mount Carmel & St Patrick (one church - what a mouthful) & St Mary. I did wonder about the outskirts of Chadderton & Royton.

Jooleh

Jooleh Report 23 Apr 2010 23:27

So the address connection is not to do with 20 Taylor Street. It's the connection between some of the baptism addresses and the 1911 census. 12 Park Street/Back Park Street.??

also just looked back at p19 - the dob baptism gene has for Norman is actually Thomas - also on lancsbmd & freebmd as Thomas

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 23 Apr 2010 23:57

did we have this one somewhere along the line

Births Mar 1922 (>99%)
Jones Sidney Mangham Oldham 8d 1015

did not find a baptism for this one - wonder if they had moved outside to Chadderton / Royton as this one is Oldham East sub-district on lancs bmd and Thomas 1912 is Oldham Central, the other were Oldham South & Oldham Below Town

edit - forget that Chadderton & Royton were sub-districts in their own right
