Hi
This family seemed to move about a lot, in the 1881 census they are
in Heathfield Bromfield, Cumberland with 3 children Mary b 1863,
Robert b 1866 and James b 1871 in Sunderland ( my line ) I don't seem to be able get any further back.
From what I can gather William & Sarah married in 1851 in Cockermouth
Cumberland I presume there where more children before Mary in 1863.
Can anyone help please ?

This makes him too young to marry - is the age in 1881 wrong, and do you have evidence for that?

Yes I know you had the record I gave...I added it to help us find him, as other details help like place of birth plus the dob you gave as 1832 is a bit different to the 1835 and 1837 that has been found for William.

Patchem had asked poster for "who James 1871 married and children or post the censuses for him" Hoping there might be something to link the earlier and later finds i suppose.
I can't see any of the family in 1871 which might help.

In the 1881 census they both mention they were born in Wigton in Cumberland she says she's 48 ie born 1833 and he says 46 ie born
1835.
I was looking for a partner called Sarah and came across Sarah Miller
and a marriage of 1850 in Cockermouth but that would only make him
about 15/16 of course the census taker could have written down the wrong age.
James married Annie Robinson in Ulverston in Cumberland.
