Sorry Ann, you've lost me.............

Was your grandmother really born in 1859?

And if your mother's birth name was Boyd - surely your grandmother would have had that surname?

ellieathome Report 28 May 2012 22:43

Was Frances Boyd born and married in Scotland. Are you following her line through Scotlandspeople?

If Ellen Hamilton stated in 1878 that she was 19 ,then Ann Nora Frazer 1859 was not her mother. She states she was Margaret Tilley

You need to find Margaret Hamilton's death cert on Scotlandspeople .She was deceased before 1878
You'll have to try all the known surnames .
ellieathome

Edit - Ellen Hamilton is your Grandmother .Margaret Tilly is your G Grandmother.
Frances may have called Ann Frazer Gran as she may have been the oldest one around

Ann

One last try - on my part.

Please answer two questions - add nothing else for the moment

Your mother was born Frances Boyd - when and where, please?

I think you have her birth cert - what (exactly) are the names on it for her parents?

ellieathome Report 29 May 2012 09:59

If Margaret Tilly died soon after the birth of Ellen Hamilton, would Ann Nora Frazer have brought her up.Either way she is a surrigate grannie

Ann Report 29 May 2012 16:59

ErikaH Report 29 May 2012 17:20

Your mother's mother was your grandmother - that's a biological fact. Ellen, nee Hamilton fills that role

The other woman was not your grandmother - no matter what 'pet name' you may have given her
