Ann, how do you know when Margaret Tully was born please? I can't see her on any census or Ann Norra or her son William. Have you found any of them on census records please?

If your Margaret was born in 1839 then the marriage below is unlikely (not impossible though) to be hers.

JOHN FRASER
MARGARET TILLEY
Marriage: 10 DEC 1854 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

If the above is her marriage, have you found a death for John Fraser before Ellen's birth? If not then probably Margaret wasn't free to marry Mr. Hamilton.

Have you found Ellen's birth on Scotlandspeople please? Have you looked at the OPR entry for the above marriage to see if there is any further information i.e. father's names and / or occupations?

What are the details from Ellen Hamilton / Boyd#s death certificate please?

I don't see Ellen on any census records prior to her marriage to Francis Boyd. Have you found her please either as Ellen or Ann Norra ?

EDIT

If that Fraser / Tulley marriage in 1854 is correct, then I think Margaret was born earlier than 1839.

Ann

Ann Report 29 May 2012 20:28

rootgatherer Report 29 May 2012 20:40

Then Margaret was 15 years old when she married John Fraser?

So Ellen Hamilton / Boyd had the same date of birth as Ann Norra Fraser?

Have you found Margaret, Ann Norra or Ellen on the 1861 or 1871 census please?

Ann Norra Fraser was not your grandmother - if she had been your grandmother, she would been named on your mother's birth certificate.....and, as you have said yourself, your mother's mother was Ellen Hamilton

Until you get that clear in your own mind, you're not going to get anywhere
