Is there anything else you know about him? Did you get his father's name from a marriage certificate? If so, how old was he when he got married?

ErikaH Report 27 Feb 2013 15:24

How old was he in 1929?

Presumably, your info is from his marriage cert.................

Where have you looked in trying to find a birth?

No marriage on freebmd for Arthur E Sampson in 1929, so the source must be something other than a marriage cert

Is this his marriage ?

Seems plausible..........so where does the other forename come from?

The marriage is not registered with a middle name.

Witnesses ?

This is a remote possibility. I can't find an Arthur Sampson who is a builder.

Been looking at London Marriages

Amy Alice Sampson born 1890 married in 1915 and her father was Arthur John Sampson and I think it reads occupation of builder, deceased

BUT probably a red herring

Bother he is a carpenter in 1901

Blast that family are on 1911 census with a son called Arthur George 1904 Epping

Where did you get the info about his second forename?

Who witnessed the marriage?

Was his father 'deceased'?

Did they live in Durham after they married? Makes me wonder if that was where he came from.

Maureen

Maureen Report 2 Mar 2013 11:55

Witness to marriage, L. Aagesen, L . Tabron. Edward could be red herring. They had a son named John George born in Hebburn, Durham. Sarah was in Hebburn alone, not sure if visiting family/separated/ divorced or whatever. Arthur's father was alive at time of marriage

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 2 Mar 2013 12:35

Not necessarily alive. It depends on how the question about him was worded.

And you haven't explained why you included 'Edward' in your initial post

Going through notes , can't find why I thought middle name, unless it was mentioned no living relative that would have known now though. Never thought that his father could be dead at time of marriage. Also Sarah remarried some years later, I have a copy of her death cert. she died 1939, age 37, in Jarrow, Durham. Hèr name then was Seddon. So did her and Arthur divorce or did he die? Although not got marriage cert to say whether or not she was widowed . Going to try finding that now .
