Mhairi Queen of Scots

Mhairi Queen of Scots Report 20 Jan 2007 01:11

I hope Jan has a nice weekend...and that when she gets back we wont have confused her even more or increased her doubt. As far as i'm aware english death certs dont show parents, unless one is the informant of the death which is a shame really. I always wonder why down in England they dont include as much information as they do in Scotland and why in Scotland general registration didnt start till 1855 and not 1837 like England. I have, as i'm sure others have, many mysteries that would be solved if registration had started earlier. On John snr, what was his occupation? Do you think there could be any record of him there? When did Jane die? Any possibility of a grave or burial record? Mhairi

Hi Jan Just run a Census check on 1861 for Janet Morson age 30- 36 and No Match for her in Scotland then. So if it is your Janet Morson that backs her being in England. Also run check for Janet Morrison age 30 - 36 years in 1861 and seven are still in Scotland in the Sterling, Campsie district? Janice

Janice Report 20 Jan 2007 01:34

Hi Mhairi It is Janet not Jane, and she was still alive in 1901 Census in same district. Found two deaths one in 1902 who came from Scotland but I know it is not her as this one was resident in London on 1901 Census & Death is London. Other in 1905 which I am sure is her & it is right District. Jan is not convinced because the age is younger than it should be, but on 1901 census she is resident with family, they may have just guessed at her age when informing on death. Looks right to me though and I would have to order it out of curiousity? Occupation of John Senior I will have to check cannot bring it to mind, think just labourer. Janice x

Yes just checked and it is Labourer. Janice x

Hi everyone I'm just amazed by all the hard work you guys have put into this while I was away. I'm no longer amazed by the kindness of people on GR, I have been the recipient of so much generousity since joining GR. I'd like to send you all my heartfelt thanks, you really are a wonderful bunch of people. I had to cut my weekend away short as I fell in the hotel bathroom, yesterday morning, and dislocated my shoulder, so I haven't even been into Chester as I spent all morning and half the afternoon in casuality. The weekend wasn't a total washout tho' Lauren still got to dive with sharks! She's delighted. Anyway between the painkillers and not being able to move my arm, I am having difficulty using the computer, so please don't think me ungrateful if I don't write to you each with my thanks. I'll be back on line the minute I feel a little better and can concentrate enough to read all the things that have been put on the thread' Once again Thank you all very much Love Jan x

Hi Jan, sorry to hear about your accident. For those of you who don't know I am the one that's upset Jan's applecart by saying my Dorothy Ann Birkett's mother is given as Janet Birkett formerly Morrison. I contacted South Shields Registrars on Friday, gave the details to a very nice lady who said she would look into it and get back to me. Moira

Hi Moira Glad to see you are looking into things. Janice

Moira

Moira Report 22 Jan 2007 17:45

Hi, Lillian, South Shields Registrars 0ffice, confirmed it was definitely Janet Morrison on Dorothy Ann's certificate. Moira

Janice

Janice Report 22 Jan 2007 18:21

Hi Moira The plot thickens with this information. Perhaps Jan should take the other birth certificate back to them and ask why that one say's Morson, considering it is the same Mother? Jan also said that she was going to check Scoltalnd's People site for Janet Morson still in Scotland in 1861, when her Janet was in England with John Birkett. Well, I ran a check for Janet Morson and there were NONE FOUND in Scotland. Even when I ran search for all areas the result was still NONE Found. Love Janice

Mhairi Queen of Scots Report 22 Jan 2007 18:27

hmmm...I still think your going to have to check all the other births and see what the mothers maiden name is on each one. Regards Janet Morson, if she's not on the 1861 Scottish census and hasnt married or died then where is she? Mhairi

Janice

Janice Report 22 Jan 2007 18:50

Jan Janet Morson NOT There 1861. Checked for Janet Morson there in 1851 and only three Found. Janet Morson age 6yrs, Clackmannan Janet Morson age 20yrs Kirkintilloch NO IMAGE Janet Morson age 17yrs Cadder/Lanark. Rechecked Janet Morson Marriages which I have already sent you and informed you of through previous thread. The funny thing is that Janet Morson who married in 1858 to Reed is 27yrs, which matches up with Janet Morson age 20yrs in 1851 census. Plus I ran a Census check for Janet Reed in 1861 and she is not there? Plus checked deaths for Janet Reed just incase she had past away, and she is not there either? One wonders if Janet Morson was Morson? Did she marry Reed and then leave for England? Did Janet Reed have a child called John to her Scottish Husband? One thing against Janet Morson who married REED is that she did sign her name on marriage certificate, and not a X Still looking Janice P.S.Agree with Mhairi all certificates shoud be checked.

Moira

Moira Report 22 Jan 2007 20:32

Hi, not sure if I mentioned it but Janet signed X the mark of Janet Birkett mother on Dorothy Ann's certificate. Moira

Janice

Janice Report 22 Jan 2007 20:57

Hi Moira Yes, Jan said she alway's signed X but so did Janet Morson's Family on Records located in Scotland. It is very common back then to find Families who could not read or write. Also very common to find mistrancriptions of names and phonetic spelling. Janice xx

Janice

Janice Report 22 Jan 2007 21:19

Hi Jan Re-checked the Janet Morson to REED marriage and spelling is different REID. So re-ran the deaths & census checks, but far too many to be sure without spending cash. I would however discount this Janet on the grounds of her signing her name herself. Janice x

There was an Agnes Morson born to a Janet Morson, what happened to her? I looked on SP but couldnt see a death or her in the 1861. Staying with another relative? Changed name? Mhairi

Janice Report 22 Jan 2007 21:44

Hi Mhairi There is a Marriage in 1886 Agnes Morson to James Kirk, in Sterling. Not opened it up to look who parents are, but she is there. It could be her? Janice x

Janice

Janice Report 22 Jan 2007 22:07

Hi Mhairi OK opened it up with my left over credits, and her is what I found. Marriage in the Parish of Campsie in County of Stirling. 31st of December 1886. James Kirk. Ironstone Miner. Agnes Morson X marks her signature. Agnes gave her age as 22yrs. Witness William Stark & Jane Dickinson, Dairymaid. Mother given as Agnes Morson. deceased. Afterwards married to William McEwan (deceased) Signed John McIntyre & Jessie McEwan Witness. So does this look like the baby of Janet Morson to you Mhairi? Love Janice x

Hello Everyone This is going to be short and sweet, a combination of pain and painkillers is making it difficult to concentrate but I wanted to express my heartfelt thanks to you all AND I've had an idea! (Rare even when I don't feel like I've just been run over by 15 trucks) I've recieved a copy of Dorothy Ann Birketts birth certificate from Moira (thanks cousin) I have just sent her a copy of Elizabeth Birkett's birth certificate (hope I didn't mess it up) And I was wondering if it would help in anyway if I sent JANICE (Hi Janice) and MHAIRI ( Hi Your Majesty) a copy of the certs. Let me know if you think it might help, I will be flitting around the computer for about half an hour but then I will have to give up and go to bed. Love and gratitude to you all. Jan :) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
