Not sure...there was an Agnes Morson born to an Agnes Morson in 1862. The mother i think would be Janet's sister. Mhairi

Hi JANICE, I have e-mailed the certs to you. Thanks MHAIRI, will send them as soon as I get your address Hi MOIRA, your mail box is full! (wish I was that popular). The e-mail I sent you was returned, you may want to think about deleteing some stuff, or moving it into a new folder out of the way. Love Jan x

Hi Janice, Moira and Mhairi I have sent you all the certificates, (although 2 of the 3 I sent to Moira have been returned as 'mailbox full') Please let me know if they turn up I've been told that I have to turn the computer off in 5 minutes !!!!!!!!! It appears that some people need some sleep even if I don't !! In all fairness the computer is in the bedroom so I suppose I should be reasonable, besides I'm exhausted Good night Jan x

Good morning everyone. I am off to put some more credits on the Scotlands People, I have never been very successful on this site, but you never know, I might get lucky. Beyond that I really don't know what to do, except wait until to see what Moira comes up with from the South Shields Office. I am convinced that the key to solving the mystery is finding John Birkett Jnr's birth certificate. I have never seen one, but it appears that Scottish birth certificates carry a lot more information. The only John Morson born in the right time frame is the one Janice sent me, born in June 1860 in Auckland. If by Auckland they mean Bishop's Auckland there is always a possibility that a pregnant young Janet Morson left Scotland and had her illegitimate son in the North-East of England and then met John Birkett. Actually I shouldn't go there, all this speculation is bad for the sanity, I could go on forever with 'what if's ' and 'maybe's' If any of you can think of something that I should be doing please tell me. Love Jan x

Hi Everyone - the latest from my end- Debra V lk did a search for Janet Morrison for me and came up with:- 1841 Agness Morrison abt 1835 Stirlingshire, Scotland Campsie 475 Janet Morrison abt 1806 ' ' ' ' ' ' Janet MORRISON abt 1837 ' ' ' ' ' ' Jean Morrison abt 1839 ' ' ' ' ' ' John Morrison abt 1806 ditto Occupation ENGINE KEEPER John Morrison abt 1840 ditto William Morrison abt 1832 ditto Adress Mackroft Kouan Trse Fandt ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1851 ED: 4 Page 55 Household schedule number :199 Line 19 Roll CSSCT1851_99 Household Members Christina Marison 7 DAU Janet Marison 46 WI Janet MARISON 14 DAU CALICO PRINTFIELD WORKER Jean Marison 12 DAU CALICO PRINTFIELD WORKER John Marison 48 HD ENGINEER John Marison 10 SON Mary Marison 5 DAU William Marison 19 SON CALICO PTINRFIELD MACHINE ENGRAVERS LABOURER address no 3 (that's all it says) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1861 ED: 10 Page 33 Household schedule number :173 Line 14 Roll: CSSCT 1861_63 Household Members: Margaret Campbell 14 NIECE Agnes Morrison 25 DAU DOMESTIC SERVANT Janet Morrison 57 WI JANET MORISON 23 DAU PRINTFIELD WORKER Jean Morrison 21 DAU PRINTFIELD WORKER John Morrison 60 HD COTTON MANUFACTURER John Morrison 18 SON PRINTFIELD LABOURER Address Whitefield ____________________________________ So if Janet Morrison/Marison is in Scotland at the time of the census, she cannot be the Janet Morrison that we were looking for, and as far as I can tell this was the only Janet Morrison born at the right time! ________________________________________________ I put up a request for a search on Joanne Cousins's thread and she is looking for John Birkett, she thinks that she may have found him in 1851 living as a boarder with a woman and her child, as soon as I get something definate from her I'll stick it up. Hope you are all well Take Care love Jan x

Hi Jan Got your certificates as you know! Waiting with you for news from Moira. Did see the search in Scotland that you have put up tonight, but discounted it after 1861. Good Luck on Scotland's People Site, it is easy to get round once you are used to it. However as names repeat so often and mistranscriptions and phonetic spelling rule it can get very confusing for a time. Speak Soon Love Janice x

Hi Everyone Joanne Cousins may have found John Birkett Snr. in the 1851 census She has John Birkett born abt 1827, Lancaster, Lancashire, boarder in SKERTON, living with a JANE WHIATSON and her daughter. That's as much as she's got at the moment. I will keep you up to date as stuff comes in. I'm off to bed now, so goodnight to you all. Take Care Love Jan x

Hi All I've found the reference to John in the National Burial Index I have John BIRKETT age 64, burial date 24th Nov 1889. Burial place Redmarshall, St Cuthbert. (No idea where that is). So now I can find and order his death certificate, although I don't know now much info there is on a death cert, at least it's a start. I did get my Aunt and Uncles death cert's yesterday and they seem quite detailed. Date and place of birth as well as the death (obviously). So you never know we might get something Hope you are all well. Jan x

Now I'm getting cross. The burial index can't be the one because I have John's death as third quarter 1888 South Shields vol10a page 319 age 63 years. Why can't anything about this bl--dy man be simple? Love 'Irritated of Bristol' :(

Never a dull moment. 63/64 age not that far out, but just been looking for death in 1889 December Quarter thinking if he was buried in November, he must be registered in December Quarter. One there ok but it say's age 71 and registered in Ulverton. The November date you have is buriel date, not death date, but you would think they have to be close to actual date otherwise where would he be untill they buried him? Janice x

Janice Report 24 Jan 2007 21:37

Looked again and it is Ulverston NOT Ulverton. That is in the Lake District? Checked quarter before September 1889 and one there as well but registered in Poplar age 66yrs. Go with the S Shields death one you found already, this may refer to another John Birket being Buried. Janice xx

Jan Just been looking on Ancestry at Census details for John Birkett and in 1841 there is a 20 yr old John in ULVERSTONE Lancashire. All similiar names and some birth registration details are not that clear to make out. Ulverston/Ulverton/Ulverstone. The death does look like Ulverston though? That 1841 census with John age 20 has siblings down called James, Edward & many more. Just wondered with there being an Edward & James in the children? Janice x
