Hi Zoe, Trying to find John Chilton born c 1829, I have found him in 1861,1871,1881 census but no record prior to 1861. In 1861 he is married to Gertrude Mary but is registered as Chelton (typing error)and says he was born in Islington and living in Marylebone. In 1871 and 1881 living in same place but gives Marylebone and Hatfield as birth places!!! I believe his father was called Richard and he was a butler, can you help??? Thanks for the offer. Kathryn

Zoe Report 7 Feb 2006 20:39

Kathryn Have tried numerous ways looked through all the Johns b1829+/-2 and cannot find one with a surname Chilton Chelton or anything similar sorry about that maybe you would be best asking for a 1841 lookup from someone as he would only have been around 12 and still with parents Sorry about that Zoe

Hi Zoe, thanks for your kind offer! I'm looking for a Scottish family that I believe were in Newcastle or Sunderland by the time of the 1861 census. Alexander Mckenzie, aged c44 +/5 Margary Mckenzie, aged 40 +/-20 Ann Mckenzie, aged 12 +/-2 Murdina Mckenzie, aged 9 +/-2 Margaret Alexandrina Mckenzie, aged 4 +/-2 Alexander Mckenzie, aged 1 It is just possible that the wife may have been Ann rather than Margary (which has been spelt Marjory, Marjorie). They were all born in different parts of Scotland. Lochbroom, Reiff, Banff, Inverness, Gorbals, Lanark are all possible places. Many thanks for your time! Kind regards, William
