Anne Quite a number of James Calders born Dundee. How old do you expect your one to be? If adult, any idea of occupation? Any other family members you know of to help narrow them down? Regards Ellen.

Hi Ted Need some help here. What were the ages and occupations on the 1861, so I can narrow them down. I've got an Ebenezer Beattie, age 45, widowed, a Farmer of 250 acres, born Cummertrees, Dumfries, with his 4 daughters (Mary Jane, 17, Janet, 15, Helen 13, Annie 11) and 3 servants. Could that be one of William's sons? Regards Ellen.

Hello Ellen. Could you possibly look for Thomas Bonner born Aberdeen 1845? I realise it isn’t much to go on and Bonner is a common name. I am at the stage of looking for needles in haystacks. Thank you Pat.

Ted Just to tidy up your lot, I don't see young William in 1881, and the girls are probably married, so I think that's it for them. Do you have the family on the 1841? I'll just have a look now for you. Regards Ellen.

Ellen

Ellen Report 15 Jul 2006 10:55

HI Ted Don't know if you have this info already, but a bit of a puzzle for you in 1841. Janet and the children were at a place called Martingrett, Troqueer, Kirkcudbright in 1841, but William was not at home. I checked the IGI for children of William and Janet, and this really does look like Janet and the kids to me, as the Isabella is showing on the IGI. So we have at Martingrett: (All noted as born in Kirkcudbrightshire) Mary Milroy, 35, Agriculturist Janet Beattie, 30 James Beattie, 7 Isabella Beattie, 6 Mary Beattie, 4 Robert Beattie, 2 Janet Beattie, 1 Mary Pagan, a Female Servant William Swan, an Ag Lab. Hope this is of some help to you. I'll have an other go later at finding William. Must be working somewhere else. Regards Ellen.

. Hello again Ellen. Thanks for looking for me. Would you be kind enough to see if you could find him in1842? I have found him living with his wife and children in York in the 1881 British Census, age 36 His Birthplace is given as Aberdeen Scotland. His Death is given as 1889 age 44years But I realise this could be a transcript error from the BMD. Thank you once again. Regards Pat.
