Tracy That's where my discrepency lies...census says he was born in Manchester but I can only find birth rec in Morpeth for Benjamin Pam

I know....me too. I will have to send off for ben's birth cert from Morpeth and see if John is the father on that....is that a better way to get around this? Pam

I don't think it's them Tracy Benjamin was born 1855/56......but, I'll make a note of them as there may be a link somewhere....not many Claverings in Manchester were there? Thanks again, really appreciate it Pam

Victoria, you need to find the marriage of Cornelius. I had a quite look and didn't find one before 1920, so you will need to start somewhere arouns 1921. You will have to search through the GRO register, which is available from records offices (many libraries have these) or online (for a fee) at 1837online. There are 348 Florences born c1901 in Monmouthshire.

Ooops, for Cape should have said Wilfred's parents were a John and Dinah. John was dead before the 1851, haven't tracked down when Dinah died (another mystery).

Sorry Margaret, I can't see anything else that looks like it might be him. I did find a Dinah, born c1822 Scotland, living in Cumbria. She's on her own though.
