Hi Penny As you say it was a bit of a long shot,I could not find your man under any of the spelling variants in Handborough on the 1851 census. Regards Mary

Hi Mary I wonder if you could check the 1871 on Ancestry for me? I am looking for Annie Bays (middle name Victoria), born 1859-60 in Essex (maybe Canning Town). She should be 12 possibly 13 on the 1871 and living in London. She had a sister Mary Ann who would have been 19 in 1871. I think that she may have left home by then and would be working as a domestic servant. If there are any possibilities for Annie I would be most grateful. Thank you so much for your kind offer. Lynne

Hi Linda You're not kidding, those Dunns have gone off in the spaceship,no sign of them anywhere unless they have been very badly mistranscribed. Sorry Mary

Hi Mary Thanks for looking. They are the most secretive family I have. The only confirmed sighting is on the 1881 for the two ladies. Oh well, I will have to keep searching Thanks again Lynne

Hi Denise The earliest full census available on Ancestry is 1871 which means Mary Rowley would be approx 49 and unlikely to be still unmarried. I did try the 1851 sample but no luck there and nothing on IGI. Sorry Kind regards Mary

Mary Report 10 Feb 2005 10:55

Hi Denise, Yes I think the best way to try to track her down is with the marriage cert. By the way Wybunbury is in Cheshire according to the 1871 census not Staffs. Good luck Mary

Hi Kevin I am sorry but I have not been able to locate your John Connaughton family on any of the censuses. Tried all sorts of different spellings etc but a big fat zero. Not much better with William and Hannah,I only managed to find this entry on the 1891 but the female name is Ann and ages for both are incorrect: Living at 21 Glebe St, Ashton under Lyne Ann Connaughton Head Married 40 Card room hand b Ireland William Connaughton Son 20 Spinner in Cotton Mill b Ashton There are a number of Connaughtons on the indexes but most seem to be born in Ireland and only a few born in Lancs. Regards Mary
