Can you have a look for
John Wilshire b 1825, on the 1841census maybe he has started his own family?
Well maybe not a bit young, but where is he????

Hi Louise

Can't find him on the 41 census however his age would have mean he could possibly be in service in a house or an apprenticeship - in the 41 census they did not both to do these.

Hi

The mother was from Sandwich, Kent.

She was still married in this census but cannot find them in the 1991 census.

However Rhoda's middle name was Holmes and she was born in Ramsgate, Kent.

As girls were given the mothers maiden name as a middle name (have come across this alot) we can safetly assume she was Annie Holmes.

cannot find the marriage for annie holmes and a west though so not sure .is there not a rhoda on 1891 census?

LesleyC

LesleyC Report 22 Sep 2007 21:22

No however in 1881 census there is a William J West and Ann West (ages for Ann fit in and also place of birth) However the only marriage I can find between these two is for Ann Oxley which is even more confusing.

To be absolutely sure I would get Rhoda's birth certificate.

William in 1881 was a fisherman which is a good reason why he is not on the 1901 census.
