I quite like these that I have seen on other sites re forum etiquette:

There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

- Please treat other users with respect.
- Please ensure your reply is constructive and adds to the discussion.
- To avoid misunderstandings, please don't use 'txt spk' and try to ensure your post is relatively typo-free.

Please may I also suggest...

Take the time to read the threads on tips, records and TTF...even though now they maybe unrelated to your research ...they will come in handy at some point....you can learn such a lot as I did and still do!!

Hi All

Another little thing to add:

Please tell us what info you need and also what you already have. If you have birth, marriage or death certificates try to give the details. If you've found someone on a census post the info. If you're not sure how true a detail is, tell us e.g. 'Aunty Ann thinks he was born Yorkshire, but he lived all his life in London so I'm not sure where he was born', rather than born Yorkshire. Remember you know what you know but we don't, so we need as much help as you can give to use our knowledge to find the missing bits.

Happy searching and may all your brick walls be little ones :-)

Regards
LfW

Hi,

Having returned to all this in November 2007, after a few year's break and having forgotten most of how to go about thing's(was never very good in the first place), getting in many a muddle and correcting my mistakes....I now find it very helpful to read as many thread's as time allow's...even unrelated one's
.
I have picked up so much info this way, eg new site's..never before heard of,...new way's of searching...I would never of thought of..and so on.

So my tip would be, read, read and more read.

Thank's to all those, from whom I have gleaned so much valuable info...You are all Star's

Best Wishes
