Island

Island Report 7 Apr 2014 13:12

How are you getting on with it?
Are you finding it is getting easier?
Do you have faith in it becoming second nature?

or are you as dismayed as I and wish you hadn't renewed?

:-(

I gave up on FMP years ago Island, was
never able to find anything on it that helped
me. Must be me do you think. :-)

Do not like it :-P
I'll admit I'm not very good with change anyway, especially when I don't see any obvious need for it.....but the new FMP? Pah!! Don't like it.
It's not as well laid out as before and I find I'm missing vital info...aaarrrgggghhhhh :-S

Funny you should post this Island.

Last night I thought I would do some research and look at the parish records to see if they were updated.
Took me ages to find them and after looking at about 3 or 4 it timed me out. :-0 :-0 :-0

Certainly don't think it's an improvement. :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

Take care

It is a nightmare - obviously whoever designed the changes is not into family research :-|

My subscription on there runs out in a couple of weeks. I won't be renewing. I can't make head nor tail out of it now.

Had been trying to get the hang of the new site, but you either get far too many hits, or spend forever searching through the record sets and collection to apply filters. Everything takes so long to load, and often times out in the end.

Really don't like the new census transcript format - I used to like the old FMP one where the whole household's details were all together in a compact format, now you have to click on each member, like Ancestry, to get full details for each person.

Last night I couldn't link to ANY of the collections at all - just said it couldn'r find 'new find my past'

I'm doing my best to give the new layout a fair go, but am struggling in the face of lack of user friendliness, and the site seizing up on me completely.

I really don't understand why they have lumped BMDs together :-S it was so simple to search before.
Looking on their FB page, they obviously don't give a tinkers cuss about their subscribers.

I've never had a problem with changes to websites but this is well beyond change.

Oh, and are the search boxes MASSIVE so that we can fill them in with our crayons? :-D

nameslessone Report 7 Apr 2014 15:35

It is such hard work! I don't know how newcomers to family history will cope with this - it is much too complicated and will not lead them into deeper research. ( I was going top say 'lead them on' but realised we were all being that!)

I can't wait to see how my newbies find it in our next session in a couple of weeks.

I'm fortunate as I didn't pay to renew at the beginning of last month as I had a free 3 month sub from a magazine sub - otherwise I would be going ballistic.

I don't use face book so I have never seen FMP's excuses unless they have been c&p onto their own forum. Which makes interesting reading. They have only just started to respond on there. The WDYTYA magazine on line forum is supposed to be having an Q&A with them today - can't wait. I've also seen comments from professional genealogists complaining as bitterly as the amateurs. So, question, 'Who is the redesign aimed at?'

I do not like the new format one little bit. Unfortunately I only renewed in Feb so have to put up with it for now. :-| :-| :-| :-| :-|

AnninGlos Report 7 Apr 2014 16:11

Not a member any more but it used to be a comfortable place to search. You mean it was a worse make over than the last GR one? Maybe it is the same programmers.

Island

Island Report 7 Apr 2014 16:35

Far worse than GRs changes Ann.

LaG, I'd only just renewed when the full horror was revealed. I'm really cheesed off about it.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 7 Apr 2014 16:37

So am I island. I will not be renewing next year that's for sure. I was thinking about cancelling this year but ummed and ahhed until too late :-| :-| :-| :-|

Island

Island Report 7 Apr 2014 16:41

Same here LaG! There was even a hiccup because my card details had changed - why oh why didn't I take that as an omen? :-| :-|

LaGooner

Renes Report 7 Apr 2014 17:51

I understand our Phil was heavily involved with trashing it ......

he was demostrating parts from the new FMP at WDYTYA ....earlier this year

EDIT ... further I am told that the GR tree will never be fixed, as it sooooo "buggy" it is impossible to put right ...

Island Report 7 Apr 2014 18:01

So.....how many in the wrecking mob compared to disatisfied customers?

Their arrogance knows no bounds it seems.

I have yet to see anyone speak in favour of it.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 7 Apr 2014 18:48

I hate it, I find it slow and cumbersome.

I accidentally deleted a census entry from my tree, try as I might, I couldn't find it on the new search. In the end I went back to Ancestry which I also have and came up with it in seconds. Since then I have tried other census searches and they give no results even though I know they are there. Heaven help any newcomers trying to build their tree in the first place

I have been doing newspaper searches and every time I narrow the search it removes the name I am looking for,so I have to put it in again. Basic glitches such as that shouldn't be there.

To me it is just about unusable, so unless they fix it ,I won't renew
