Hello Elaine..no I'm fine..just having a bit of a trauma with my other Thread which has suddenly gone KAPUT!!

Ask away.

Derek Report 5 Jun 2011 19:53

Hello Elaine.......we have a small problem here.......largely becasue my interest and "expertise" normally ends at the 1911 Census....but I normally find some way round that.

In this case, it would help if I knew the ages of the participants in 1928

BMD's have turned up the marriage of FLORENCE GRAINGER Apr/May/Jun 1928..registered at Basford Notts..............but although the husband is BECKWORTH..there is no first name..."no reliable information has been found..."

You may or may not know that I live in Basford Nottingham...and the records have caused some trouble in the past because Ilkeston..colloquially known as Ilson.....is in Derbyshire..thinks its in Notts and the Registration District for Ilkeston Derbys was Basford Notts........if you can sort that one out..!!

You really need to send for the Marriage Certificate....and if we can get an age for either of them.....presumably born 1900.1910..then at least one of them will be on the 1911 Census......

I have found a GEORGE BECKWORTH and LOUISA nee SYKES..with several children including a William 1895..living in Leicestershire 1901..and the only reason I mention it is that George died in Ilkeston Derbys 1928........co-incidence??????

I have sent an email to Holy Trinity Ilkeston..an Anglo-Catholic Church found 1888..to see if they still have the marriage records........

Derek and Elaine

Name: William Beckwith
Spouse Surname: Grainger
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1928
Registration district: Basford
Inferred County: Nottinghamshire
Volume Number: 7b
Page Number: 479

matches the registration info for Florence Grainger.

Found by searching for a marriage for surname Bec* in 1928 in Basford.
Checked the image and it is listed under surname Beckwith.

I don't want this thread popping up in "my threads" all the time so I'd like to delete this -- can you copy it into a post Derek, with my compliments? :-D

edit - the births to the marriage were Beckworth, mother Grainger, Basford 1928 and 1930. I won't put the details here as they may be living; they should be at FreeBMD.

That may be the part that's known!

edit

possibly in 1911 (the other one in Nottingham, 1904, is William Owen Beckworth):

BECKWORTH WILLIAM 1900 11 Nottingham Nottinghamshire
seems to be living with
BECKWORTH JOHN 1876 35
BECKWORTH HARRIET 1880 31
BECKWORTH JOHN 1908 3 Nottingham
BECKWORTH BENJAMIN 1905 6

Hello again Elaine this is in addition to my reply earlier .have been doing a bit of ferretting on the 1911 Census........i don't like co-incidences,,and i always follolw them up to kill them or cure them!!..........My casual brilliance kicked in when i tries George and Lydia Beckworth..Whitwick leics on the 1901 Census...NO go on the Ilkeston Derbys front..but themn tried Basford Notts,,,,,,,,!!

1911...George (now widowed) and several children including William 1895.....George .aged 51..Coal Porter Gasworks,,,,,,,,and his family..living at 39 Andrews Ave Larklands ilkeston!!!

Pretty close for a young lad who might go on to marry an Ilson Lassie!!

Then I did the same for Florence Grainger..again under Basford Notts....

Two possibilities......FLORENCE IDA GRAINGER daughter of George Arthur
and Agnes......born 1908.......living at 6 Springfield Gardens ..Cotmanhay Ilkeston..............AND alternatively.....

FLORENCE GRAINGER one of several children ..born 1899 to James and Esther......living at 60 Awsworth Road ilkeston.!! all three addresses are within spitting distance from each other...........I jnow the area well.....and if these are not in some way related to your enigma....I'll eat a whole cow!!

Janey Canuck..a good friend and associate has also contribute valuable clues..in particular.an answer to the marriage registration.....the name comes up as Beckwith..not Beckworth...and a possible William owen Beckworth of Nottingham...........like me Janey lets you know what is a suggestion and what is fact.......unlike some!!

You should have some information somewhere that will support or destroy my line of thinking!!

Hi Derek

Sorry your other thread has gone, i went to take a copy of what you had given me on my Pendletons and ask another question and it was gone.

I am so annoyed with them, why yours and not others, all that work you put in to help members.

Keep up the good work,

Sylvia (in Oz)

Hi Derek,

If you remember we were looking for John Pendlerton born abt 1781 Ashover , but i may have found him in North Wingfield 1779.

Anyway have some things on in the next couple of days, so will be back with what i found then.

Sylvia........I had found that, and in the meantime have the full story on the basis that John Pendleton WAS from North Wingfield..trouble is there are THREE of them all born 1776-1779........Now you're safely on this Thread.I'll post what I've got later on today...

Hi Elaine..so I was right.....we now know the full story of William..and i have details of the family before they moved from Whitwick to Ilkeston..if you need to go back further......

I have had a reply from Holy Trinity, and the Records are at Matlock Records Office..which I'll look up next time I go.....the Marriage Record will give Florence's parents..and I bet she's one of the two I have found in 1911..in which case I'll be able to go back into her family as well

Hi Derek,

Long time since I have been here!

Wondered if you look into Amelia or Amy Marsh (nee Brown born around 1771 in Bolsover) and married to William Marsh in January 1790. The last of children was born around 1815, the year that William died.

Although, many trees have put her death at 1863, I am sceptical as they have used a record for Amelia Brown dying in Radford, Notts 1sr qtr 1863 not Marsh.

I wondered if you check your Scarcliffe records to check any death of marriage between 1815 and 1837? I found an Emma Marsh marrying in 05/08/1822 to a Samuel but other near matches

Mark

Hi Derek,

In connection to my earlier question about Amelia Marsh, I have one about her husband - Wiiliam

William Marsh, was born in 1771 in Bolsover and died in Scarcliffe on 25/12/1815. However, looking at the census records for 1841 there is a William Marsh aged 70, so born in 1771 (I think on genes it has been mis-transcribed as 74) in Scarcliffe. Do you have any records regarding this chap. He appears to be married to an Elizabeth Marsh aged 54, and there is an Mary or May Marsh aged 15.

Derek Report 7 Jun 2011 21:11

Hello Mark..this is very difficult without going back to Matlock Reacords Office.

Amelia is in fact AMEY or AMY..and she was born 26.02.1771 Amey Brown daughter of John and Mary.at Bolsover

She married William Marsh 26.01.1790..........

I cannot at this moment find a reliable birth for William Marsh...but bearing mind that Bolsover Scarcliffe are both in the Chesterfield Registration district..there is a baptism for a William Marsh 25.12.1770

I have found a marriage for a William Marsh at Scarcliffe to ELIZABETH HARDWICK 05.08.1822..which would fit the details on your 1841 Census.......

I have also found your marriage for EMMA MARSH to SAMUEL BENNETT at Scarcliffe 05.08.1822........and bearing in mind the likelihood of mistranscriptio..or even simple mis-spelling..it COULD be Amy.

I have not yet found a death for William Marsh or for Amy Marsh.

Derek.

Hi Derek,

Using the naming method of grandfather/father/son with John Pendleton 1781 Ashover?? and Hannah Gills first son was Richard 1809 in Ashover, Richard is an unusual name in my tree. I found from IGI,

(submitted )

Richard Pendleton marrying Sarah Roberts 22 Oct 1770 North Wingfield

Children from the pilot site, all baptised North Wingfield

William 5 May 1771-15 Feb 1772
Mally 14 Mar 1773
Ann 23 June 1775

Roseannah 12 Aug 1787

Other children from a Ancestry tree,

John 1779 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Sarah 1782
Hannah 1786
Elizabeth 1792

Now i could be up the creek without a paddle and he may not be my John, but its worth a look.

Thank you for any help.

Hello Sylvia..I thought I had all this sorted until the Axbridge Somerset bombshell hit........

I have all the children of John pendleton and Hannah Gill...including Richard 24.12.1809 and SARAH 26.05,1881..who married Geroge Edwards..I have their children too....

JOHN PENDLETON 22.11.1772.was one of many children of John and Jane nee Berdow...as was William 24.08.1783..but John is the only John at Ashover in iur time-frame...and the more I think of it..the more I think he is a red herring......I think it was he who went to Somerset.....because the JOHN PENDLETON 05.09.1779 son of RICHARD and SARAH was baptised at North Wingfield..and the marriage of John Pendleton to Hannah Gill 23.04.1845 clearly states John to be "of North Wingfield"..and this John is just as clearly still in Debyshire after the death of Hannah in 1845..and never went anywhere near Somerset.......

John 1772 Ashover is in Somerset..1841 with Hester Pendleton.and in 1851 he is alone.

The only shadow with my reasoning is that he was a shoemaker..and that in 1841 he has a son James with him aged 15(ish)..just like the son James 24.02.1828 of John and hannah.

I suggest that your original enquiry about John Ashover 1772 and William Ashover 1780...being brothers is right..Parish records tell us that definitely......but John father of Sarah is not related........I SUGGEST!! lol

Geroge edwards born 19.04 1808 married Sarah pendleton 26.04.1830 at Crich..abd had their children at Wingfield.....

Still a lot of work to do..but I'm on to it.

Derek.

Derek

Derek Report 9 Jun 2011 17:10

Sylvia..........addition to message below...........As I said there is no John Pendleton baptised ashover 1781.............but more potential problems....there are three possible John's who could have married Hannah Gill in 1809..baptised 1776..1777..and the son of Richard and Sarahb1779............without more work it is not possible to tell which one married Hannah...............
..and I was wrong about the marriage of John and hannah at Ashover showing John as coming from NW....it was the John that married Jane Berdow who did come from NW.............so actually we have still to disprove that John 1772 Ashover didn't marry Hannah!!!!

Sorry......but I'll sort it.....

Derek.
