Hi Derek,

Wondered if, you would be able to find any information about a William Wood born around 1822 in Shirebrook on the Derbyshire/ Notts Border such as perents.

I have been working on the Wood family connection to the Marsh family in Langwith. I have found Jeremiah Wood born 1768 in Flixton Lancashire, married Mary Barthorp in 1791 in Gamston Notts. They had several children including William born 1793, Elkesley, Notts., Jane born 1804 Gamston, and Sarah born 1810.

Sarah married Samuel (born 1805, Scarcliffe), Jeremiah and William are living in Langwith from at least 1841 onwards.

Jane married a Charles Stretton or Streeton in 1841 in Nottingham. In 1861 she is visited by niece Jane Marsh (born 1843 Langwith daugther of Samuel Marsh and Sarah Marsh nee Wood). In 1871 she is visited by another niece Elizabeth Wood born c1855 in Glapwell.

I have found an Elizabeth Jane Wood born 1855 in glapwell in the 1861 census daugther of William Wood born around 1822 in Shirebrook so i am assuming this is her and trying to tie her father into Jeremiah's family.

Can, you offer any assistance or as forgive the pun -- I can't see the Woods for the trees.

Regards
Mark

Hello again Mark.

Shirebrook is in the Parish of Pleasley..which is where to look.

WILLIAM WOOD christened 02.02.1823 son of William and Martha nee Yates..who were married at Whitwell 28.05.1822.

As you know, I have the Scarcliffe PR's..and a marriage at Scarcliffe between a William Wood aand Sarah Glasby 25.11.1816 may fit in somewhere.

You are perhaps unfortunate that your searches appear to flit across the Notts/Derbys border in that corner of Scarcliffe Langwith Cresswell Whitwell Worksop area!..some are easy..some are not!

Looking around.I cannot immediately see any relationship between JEREMIAH WOOD 1768 and William Wood 1822..unless William 1793 son of Jeremiah is the one who married Martha 1822 and fathered William 1823..makingJeremiah grandfather to William 1823.......!! BUT as you say in 1841 William 1793 is living with Jeremiah..and three teenagers, who I take to be children of William 1793..but no wife and no William 1822...............
All the best

Derek.

Hi Derek,

Need your help again please with finding the marriageof Isaac Key c1833 at Barlow to Dorothy ? c 1836 at Dronfield. I believe their first child was born 16/5/1857 and baptised at Old Brampton on 5/2/1860 (from IGI)

I have found several children for them and they were baptised at either Brampton or Great Barlow. Unable to find the baptisms for
Isaac born 1866
Polly c 1875 - not been able to find the birth either.

Hi Derek,

Could you please have a look for the death of a Mary Holmes, I've got her living in Newbold St. Chesterfield in 1851 she's aged 60 and a needlewoman, I can't see her on the 61 census so take it that she must have died between 51 and 61. I've looked on the freebmd but there's loads of them and because it doesn't state ages it's very difficult to see which one could be her. I'm hoping that the 51 address will help.

Many thanks
Kath

Hi Derek,

Hope you're well and recovered from your holiday, just wondered if you'd missed my request for a look-up, I posted it on the 22nd. I asked if you could have a look for the burial of a Mary Holmes between 1851 and 1861, she was living in Newbold St. Chesterfield on the 51 census aged 60

Any help much appreciated.

Hello Kathleen..sorry to be so tardy in answering you......but the problem is that I have no information about which Mary Holmes you want. I don't have Parish records for Chesterfield, so I need to go to Matlock for the correct information..even then I need more details aabout her from you

There are FIVE possibilities!

MARY HOLMES death was registered at Chesterfield as follows:-

Second Quarter 1851
Fourth Quarter 1851
First Quarter 1856
Fourth Quarter 1857
Fourth Quarter 1860........

all of which will be in Parish Records in one of the many Chesterfield Parishes..and should include her age at Death........perhaps you see my problem....

Derek.
