gives this one ,
perhaps someone can check census info for you if you don't have credits for 1911 to see what details are on there. if he was married it should say how many years married.
HOUSEHOLD JONES JOHN E 1875 36 Oldham Lancashire

lancashireAnn Report 19 Mar 2010 23:08

do you have names of any of the children born in Oldham please? Presumably you got Mary's maiden name from one of them.

There are a few John E Jones who married a Mary E in Oldham in the possible time scale and it would help to identify the right one in 1911/1901.

martynsue Report 20 Mar 2010 08:52

my granddad norman born aug 1915 he had brothers arthur who was older leonard who was older &sid who was younger he had 2 sisters nellie & rose who were older there were no other children

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 20 Mar 2010 09:55

Something is wrong with the above.
If they have been married for 13 years, May would have been 11! Either her age is down wrong ( the image says the same) or John has been married for a total of 13 years, and May is his 2nd wife.

Earlier, you said that John's wife was Mary E from Ireland. These details don't match up with what you 'know'.

Joan Report 20 Mar 2010 09:58

Hi Martyn and DET
I have just found the same.
On lancs bmd there is only a MAY JONES b 1899 mmn Cropper and a NORMAN JONES b 1915 mmn Cropper.
Where are they on 1901.

martynsue Report 20 Mar 2010 10:07

this is realy puzzleing it plainly says mary elizabeth on her death certificate not sure about the may name

martynsue Report 20 Mar 2010 10:11

there was no jack either

martynsue Report 20 Mar 2010 10:26

on count back mary was born 1876 in ireland cofused about may ?

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 20 Mar 2010 10:34

In that case, the 1911 we found could be wrong, even if the pob for John is correct.

If you are going from verbal memory for the children, it is possible that someone was estranged from the family, or died young and not talked about.

Perhaps someone has the time to go through all the John Jones/Mary Jones to see if they can come up with a better fit, even if the pob's aren't as you think they ought to be?

martynsue Report 20 Mar 2010 10:39

it has realy baffled me mum says her granddad was welsh though she cnnot remember him however she remembers mary she was irish and strict catholic
