Ah a reference to the illusive Mary Carr - thanks for that. So 2 more half-siblings for my friend's grandmother.

If Maurice was 29 when he died in 1942, he must have been born in 1913, but the only record I can find is 1917.

Don't know if this has already been posted, but posting as a possible:

Marriage: 9th May 1883
name(s) Peter Kelly (Bachelor, full age, farmer)
Father: Peter Kelly (Farmer)
Registration year 1883
Registration quarter Apr - Jun 1883
Registration district Dungannon (Tyrone)
Volume 1
Page 644

Spouse: Mary Kerr (Spinster, full age)
Father: Patrick Kerr (Farmer)

Janet

Janet Report 8 Feb 2019 14:05

Do you think Carr/Kerr might be interchangeable? Goodness knows I have enough of them in my own tree, with Standen/Standing and Foster/Forster to name but two.

This is from Peter (c1870-1946) Kelly's death certificate : Parents Peter Kelly (farmer) and Bridget nee Donlan.

I found a Kelly/Donlan marriage in Glasgow, but doubt if its the correct one.

Anne told me from the start that she thought there was an Irish connection, but she didn't know how far back that was.

I don't know how to thank you for all the time you are all putting into this search for us, you have increased Anne's tree immensely.

I suppose "full age" means over 21? If so, year of birth must have been before 1862, which would make him older than I'd thought. That would make him at least 84 when he died, rather than the 80 shown on his death certificate (from which I'd calculated his date of birth).

AustinQ, I had looked at that marriage before as Carr and Kerr are indeed interchangeable. Looking at that death for Annie Hamill nee Kelly has helped.

Glad to have you onboard with this one AustinQ.

I think Margaret just had the wrong name for her mother and it will prove to be Mary Kerr / Carr.

Jan, I think Annie Hamill nee Kelly and Margaret are full sisters not half sisters. The half siblings would be Peter and Maurice, children of Peter and Annie Scullion.

Janet

Janet Report 8 Feb 2019 14:26

According to what I've gathered so far, it looks as if Peter Kelly had three wives, even though only 2 were shown on this death certificate:

Mary Carr/Kerr, mother of Annie c 1898
Margaret Allison, mother of Margaret c 1900
Annie Scullion, mother of Maurice and Peter, 1917? and 1919 respectively.

I haven't been able to find death record of either Margaret Allison Kelly or Mary Carr/Kerr Kelly, but I'm not as good as finding these things as you all are.

Janet

Janet Report 8 Feb 2019 14:32

Uh-oh, if Annie Kelly Hamill was 74 when she died in 1972, that meant she was born in 1898, so 15 at the time of marriage to James Hamill in 1913.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 8 Feb 2019 14:44

Annie was born c1888- death was 1962.

Ancestry has the military record of another of Peter's sons (James- likely to be the other witness to Margaret's marriage):

in Dec 1916:

Great find AustinQ! Well done! :-D

Janet

Janet Report 8 Feb 2019 15:06

Born Durham - that's a new one. Does it give any indication of where he was killed? The James who witnessed Margaret's marriage was alive in 1923 though.

Even with the information you've given me, I can't find that record on Ancestry - how do you do it?

I wonder why James' address was Shrine Place when his father was living at Holygate.

Getting complicated!

Jan, it's just his military file on Ancestry. No indication he was killed in action. Shrine Place was his sister's address- so likely he was living with her as his father had recently remarried.

In fact I've just been looking at the electoral registers on FMP. James address when he witnessed Margaret's marriage was Clifton Buildings- he's still there in 1925. In the same year there is also a Mary Evelyn Kelly at Clifton Buildings.

This is possibly James' marriage:
