So Margaret Allison Kelly died between 1919 and 1923, I'll do another search.

Well found, AQ!

Ancestry's 1901 says Maggie senior, Annie, and Mary were all British Subjects, born USA.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 8 Feb 2019 15:52

I think she died before that as Peter remarried in 1916. I think it likely that 'deceased' was omitted from the marriage record.

We made a great team on this one! Hopefully the census will make things a little easier.

All this information is making my head spin, I can't get it all sorted out at all - do you really think that is the right family on the 1901? I'll go and have a closer look.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 8 Feb 2019 15:58

Yes, I think it's the correct family. Ages for Annie and James are correct, and also little Maggie/ Margaret.

Janet

Janet Report 8 Feb 2019 16:01

But born in the USA is a real surprise. I wonder when and why the parents moved over there - and why they came back.

This is stupid, I can't find that record on the 1901 England census.

Jan- search Kelly with an E: Kelley

Great AustinQ. Annie was living in Belfast when she married but James Hamill's address was Broxburn. I would guess then that Peter had moved to Broxburn before 1913 and that would be how Annie and James met?

Janet

Janet Report 8 Feb 2019 16:09

Scrap that, got them at last

Janet

I need a time line for all this :(

Jan, if you use Ancestry just create a temporary tree. I make loads of trees and just delete when I'm sure of the info and then add to my final tree.

Janet

Janet Report 8 Feb 2019 16:27

So according to the 1901, Margaret Kelly was born in the USA - presumably Margaret Allison - yet that New York 1887 birth record for Ann Jane Kelly shows father Peter, mother Mary Carr.

There's a big gap between Mary Kelly 1890 and James J Kelley 1899 - I wonder if Mary Carr died in USA, and Peter married Margaret Allison over there and they all came back together. Does that sound a possibility?

Then he married Annie Scullion after Margaret died, and Peter Jnr and Maurice were born.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 8 Feb 2019 16:30

I think Peter returned to the UK and then married Margaret- I think 1899 marriage for Peter Kelly and Margaret Ellison is correct:

Marriages Mar 1899
Ellison Margaret Lanchester 10a 435
Kelly Peter Lanchester 10a 435
