MargaretM Report 20 Jul 2015 17:22

A William Joseph Courtney enlisted for WW! in 1916 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Says he was born 25 Oct. 1876, Skiperine, Tipperary, Ireland. Lived at 461 Henry Ave., Winnipeg. Wife was Ellen. Said he had served 7 years Royal Irish Fusiliers, 3 years R.F.A. as regimental bugler.

Edit: Oh damn, you already had this info on one of your MANY previous threads about this family! AND YOU'RE CONTINUING TO POST MORE!!!

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 21 Jul 2015 02:45

I have no idea what thread this relates to, or whether there have been more threads posted while I was looking, or whether anyone has sorted out WHO Dolores is looking for, or whether this has already been posted ................

the 1901 household in Manitoba posted above was

Wm J. Courtney 27
Clara Courtney 21
Clara Courtney 0

that household is still present in the 1906 census + younger daughter Maud

in 1916 the two daughters are in a Children's Aid Shelter in Winnipeg

Name: Maud Courtney
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Single
Age: 13
Est. Birth Year: 1903
Birthplace: Manitoba
Home in 1916: 10, Winnipeg South, Manitoba
Address: No, 101, Mayfair Ave
Racial or Tribal Origin: English

Name: Clara Courtney
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Single
Age: 15
Est. Birth Year: 1901
Birthplace: Manitoba
Home in 1916: 10, Winnipeg South, Manitoba
Address: No, 101, Mayfair Ave
Racial or Tribal Origin: English

this suggests that the father was in the military per the records cited above (mother was Ellen, wife was Josephine Clara) but where the mother had got to is the question since it appears from the military records that she was living in 1916

no subsequent marriage or death is recorded for any of the parents or daughters in Manitoba

is there some possibility that Dolores will return to at least one of her threads and give some clear and correct information?

name of William, known facts about him, ...

and do it by posting in the ADD YOUR REPLY box at the bottom of the thread and not by sending another private message to someone ............

I have got all the right information re William Joseph Courtney's birth, marriage, siblings. Am still trying to find his military records in the UK and when he immigrated to Canada.

Sorry for all the confusion

Dolores

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 21 Jul 2015 23:22

Dolores, the confusion is caused by the multitude of threads that you have posted about this person, not all of them with the same details.

The main rule on this site is not to post more than one thread about the same person.

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/military_chat/thread/1353508

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/military_chat/thread/1353240

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/military_chat/thread/1353404

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1353460

And I don't think that I got them all.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 21 Jul 2015 23:29

The suggested imigration record was posted earlier in the thread. Here is the relevant part again

First name(s) WILLIAM
Last name COURTNEY
Gender Male
Age 18
Birth year 1873
Marital status S
Occupation BLACKSMITH
Departure year 1891
Departure day 21
Departure month 8
Departure port LONDONDERRY
Destination port NEW YORK
Destination NEW YORK
Country United States
Ship name CITY OF ROME

So it left Londonderry on 21 Aug 1891 and docked in New York.

A link to the Canadian military records was posted on one of your other threads. This is the link. Just click on it to take you to the site. Apparently it will take a while to load
http://central.bac-lac.gc.ca/.item/?op=pdf&app=CEF&id=B2054-S008

It's possible that his UK service records aren't on line, or have been lost/destroyed
The following link leads to the National Archive site
http://tiny.cc/utgw0x
It talks about Muster and Pay Rolls which can be used to trace the service of soldiers who served in the British Army between around 1730 and 1898 but who were not discharged to pension. They are NOT on line.

The Military Record thread is
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/military_chat/thread/1353240
You called it Service records/history. It is on Military Chat
...

If you are 'missing' information because you find reading threads confusing, why not print them out then if necessary cut the page into individual posts and put them in order.
