Gins

we have had Lavateria growing in our garden for at least 15 years, maybe 20.

OH cuts it back almost to the base in late fall ................ and it comes back again every spring.

It's glorious right now!

He's keen to keep it alive, because it was given to us by a now-dead friend.

But it is treated as a perennial over here.

Good morning all ! :-)

Don't worry Sylvia - over the past couple of days you have served us enough food to last for a month! I am still full from yesterday :-D ;-)

I can just manage a 'small' Ulster fry-up and one of those delicious blueberry gingered lemon muffins.

Thank you Sylvia - hope you enjoy the next few days <3

Good morning!

Of course one of us will help with breakfast....won't we Dea ? ;-)

Thank you for that lovely spread. We'll see you after your visitors have gone.

<3

LK, that's brilliant and just the sort of thing my OH would enjoy too! He has a 'thing' about sailing ships and that era. Does your OH enjoy the Hornblower and Bolitho type of books? I am sitting opposite a sailing ship picture as we speak :-D :-D

Two threads gone this morning, one me and Jax were discussing on last night 'Sister' thread and one where the posting was dated 2007 and MC commented on ......

That gives details of what we will do next Sunday.

Yes he loves the sailing novels and sometimes I have been able to glean a bit of history from him about naval ancestors.

Dea Report 23 Jul 2012 14:39

That looks lovely LK - I am sure that he will enjoy it !

Not sure Ginns - I seem to have a 'bubble' screen saver now but it comes up on top of my ordinary screen - NOT instead of it !!! :-S :-D

I did go out shopping earlier though and it was all black when I came back??

I have checked my settings and it is set to go to 'power save' after 10 minutes so I don't know what is happening at the moment :-S

Will check again in the morning.

Thats one of the reasons I dont want to stay anymore....GR have the ability to edit, but NO they just delete because some sad person reports the thread.

I did'nt know the sister thread was rr'd...I take it the poster did'nt return?

Gee

Gee Report 23 Jul 2012 16:15

Jax, I looked at it this morning about 8.20 and it was there. I posted to ask why had it been RR'd.......whoosh, so it went as I was typing

What I also dont get is, the posts that gave BMD details up to 1960s was still there!

There were no other replies after ours last night and Laura hadnt come back :-|

jax Report 23 Jul 2012 16:42

Maybe it was reported for being a duplicate? it would'nt be the first time GR have removed the threads with replies and left the one with nothing much on.

I am starting to wonder if there is someone going around rr'ing threads because someone has given a link to another without even bothering to look at the other one to see whats on it.

The 2007 one which I assume was rr'd for posting an email address is just ridiculous.....it had been there 5 years :-S

It would be nice if the self appointed moderator said why they were reporting such threads would'nt it

Gee

Gee Report 23 Jul 2012 17:18

I couldnt agree more........just buddy say if you RR'd it and WHY

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 23 Jul 2012 18:49

On the subject of reported threads.

I recently took issue with an experienced GR member for reporting a post because it had contained an email address. The post was the first made by the poster and it had been on the board for less than 13 minutes before it was reported.

The person who reported it first posted that they had reported it and a couple of minutes later made a second post stating that they had now sent a PM to the OP. I posted on the thread saying that it would surely have been better to contact the OP suggesting that they remove the email address rather than reporting the post then sending the OP a PM. I commented that I could only imagine what the OP now thought of the site and the person who had reported their post.

What happened next was that the reporter posted:

"Been there, done that, got the teeshirt, they never look at private messages for days". Plus something along the lines of,"Don't care what people who don't know me think about me" and ended with "I don;t like being preached at".

Not the most Christian of attitudes and yet another possible reason why not so many GR members use the message boards these days.

The thread disappeared 2 days later but whether it was GR or the OP who deleted it I do not know.

jax Report 23 Jul 2012 19:26

I remember seeing that thread Jonesey....so what if someone posts their email address....thats their problem if they recieve a lot of spam emails ect

But to report something that has been sitting on the boards for 5 years is just downright stupid.

Yes advise new posters to remove it for their own privacy but not to play board police because it has been mentioned in the t&c's.

There was a thread on genealogy chat last week about ancestry trees 3 people had there posts removed....why?? what on earth could have been wrong about what they posted?

ja...x

GR can edit these things out rather than whooosh them....only seen them do it once

"We reserve the right to edit any post that breaches our terms & conditions or reveals any information we deem too personal"
