Good morning Sylvs and thank you for breakfast :-D

It's definitely a porridge morning here this morning. It's pouring with rain and looks as though it's set in for the day. :-(

The window cleaner is busily cleaning windows down the road. Poor chap has to earn his living though.

Hope your S-i-L has a good birthday despite your forgetfulness. Will you phone and speak to him?

Goop. Love it. :-D

My "Baby" name for my maternal grandmother who lived with us was Gag. The name stuck with her right up until the day she died when I was 26. In fact the name stuck so well that everybody in the family including my mother, father and sister ended up calling her by it.

Dea

Dea Report 24 Sep 2012 12:16

No offence Jonesey but I think I would rather be called 'Goop' than 'Gag' :-D :-D

NOT a good day - my boiler came on this morning and almost immediately turned itself off !!! - No hot water, No central heating :-(

It's a good job our son is a plumbing and heating engineer ! - Apparently I need a new fan so they have gone off to get me one!

At least he was 'on hand' to come to the rescue :-D

As I missed breakfast :-(

Sylv, we posted a birthday card to our little niece one week before her birthday, which was last Saturday......still not got it grrrrrrrrrrrrr And put extra stamps on, even though it was a standard letter size

The post between here and Wales is always the same.......very poor

She phoned up, to tell us off!

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 24 Sep 2012 18:42

'Gag' is a word which should be used around here more often!

Oh poor Dea! What a day for your boiler to throw a wobbler.......at least it wasn't snowing :-D

I don't think it's really stopped raining here all day........ and the nights are certainly drawing in :-(

My maternal grandparents were known as Father and Mother to my brother and myself ........ the only grandchildren they had.

The story was that when my brother was born, they felt they were too young to be called Grandfather and Grandmother, so they suggested the alternative.

Then I came along, 10 or so years later ............ and they couldn't change, could they?! :-D

They were about 45 when brother was born .......... and their 4th and last child had been born only about 6 years before.

Grandparents in Nova Scotia are often called Grammy and Grampy ..................son-i-l's grandfather was a really miserable git. So ...................... he was called Grumpy by all the grandkids, but not to his face :-D

I had a magic moment today - picked my little grandson up from nursery and coming out a little boy said to his mum - that is XXXX (giving grandson's name ! )

Grandson beamed at the child's mother and VERY PROUDLY announced - 'this is my Grannie !!!' , looking at me as we were holding hands !

I felt really 'special' !! and I LOVE being a 'Grannie' !

Mind you, a few hours later when he got tired and 'threw a wobbly' I could quite easily of disowned him :-( ;-) - Good job I could take him home !

Good morning everyone :-D

Thank you Sylvs - I am staying with porridge this morning :-D

Both my grandfathers were called Gramp or Grampy and I wondered if it's because they were both from the south of England???

I'm called 'Nana' because, when the grandchildren were born, there were still a couple of gt. grandma's around as well as the other grandma. They were all called Grandma so I just wanted to be different.

Somehow, Grandma Cyn has a peculiar ring to it!!! :-D

A friend's grandchild who grew up on an army base in Germany, calls her grandad 'Ompa' which is, apparently, the Germany word for grandfather. on't know how you spell it properly though.

A grey morning...... :-(

Thought I would have a change today so it will be a Maille Croque Monsieur, with a few rashers of bacon 'on the side'............... OOooh and I fancy a few mushrooms with that .................... YYuuuummmmm !

Thank you Sylvia,

Ginns,

I am sure your future grandchildren would love to call you 'Gin Gins' - It has a lovely friendly sound to it and is easy for a small child to master!

What would you have them call JB ???

Jonesey Report 25 Sep 2012 08:43

Cyn,

The German for grandfather is Grosvater, pronounced Grossfarter so your friends grandchild was probably being kind to the poor old chap. ;-)

In Germany Grandfathers are often called "Opa" by their grandchildren. Roughly translated this stands for "Pop" or "Grandpa".
