I have asked the question:
"Just a thought - Do you think we should have a 'Genes Support Team' board ??
Many of us have sent messages in the past which have not been opened.
Would it be an idea to have a board for such messages which may mean we can receive replies quicker and easier??
Dea x"
Wonder what the answer will be ??

Dear Sylvia
Thank you for your feedback. My colleagues and I are meeting this week to discuss the Help Clinic and how we can make it better. I will definitely pass your coments on to them.
Your feedback is much appreciated. All we want to do is make the Help Clinic work and for all our members to feel valued. We're grateful for all the work everyone does helping others and we want to recognise this.
Best regards,
Original Message:-
after a weekend of utter turmoil on the site, .............. where people cannot move from thread to thread, ........... cannot move easily from board to board, .............. cannot move easily from page to page within a thread, ............ cannot understand exactly when a posting was made ("today" meaning any time from 12:01 am to 6 hours ago), ................ where people have lost names or been assigned strange board names, ....................... and the horror of the Help Clinic ............. I think it is time that you guys got your acts together, and made changes that actually work! ............ Those poor people who volunteered to help on the Help Clinic have largely found themselves in untenable positions .............. often unable to help answer requests posed for them because of the limitation on which sites can be used, ...... responding very inappropriately to a request for help because said request had been made earlier on a board with no success in breaking down the brick wall, thus obviously suitable for posting on a board which says "break down your brick wall" ............... and unable to have the TEAMWORK that was the basis for the magnificent work done previously. ........... I have a suggestion for you:-------- Help Clinic, when you think about it, is in fact excess to needs! .............. Other boards do the job better, have done so for many years, and in more timely fashion ........ There was no-one working on the Help Board from about 9 pm last night to 7am this morning UK time. Which means that none of your overseas members could get help. There has been no-one apparently working on that board most of this afternoon and early evening. The other Boards are doing fine! ......................... As an answer to the problem that volunteers felt unacknowledged, as shown on the market survey done in the spring, literally ALL that needed to be done was ............1) a statement in a very obvious place that all research was done by volunteers "and we thank them all"; ........ 2) inclusion of the fact that member to member help was available on the site in advertising; and ............. 3) for you to refrain from inferring in advertising that the help available on the site was by GR itself. ............... I think that would have done the job magnificently, and been approved by us all! ......... Instead of which, there are many members very upset; members seriously considering leaving GR because of the difficulties in using the site; the disparity you have caused by having Starred Official Helpers and the rest of us unstarred, and presumably to be considered less than worthy. ................. The feeling of being unacknowledged and not valued for the help provided is WORSE now than it was before.. ........ We all heard about the sale to brightsolid with hope in our hearts that the site would be improved. What a terrible job you have done.
so I guess we wait and see what their decision is

The other addressed a comment I made in another pm to her that I had to send through this site because the email address wouldn't work, and I did make 2 attempts
Dear Sylvia
I'm not sure why your emails aren't getting through to me. You can contact me on this address. Or my private address is xxxxxxxx I haven't blocked anyone from contacting me and all emails should arrive at both addresses.
I have addressed the Help Clinic issues in my previous email.
Best regards,
Original Message:- Subject : Feedback attn Estelle. ...................... I have attempted TWICE to reply to your email through my outside email, and get the message that I am blocked. Not happy about that!. ........................ I hope this is understandable, as your pms do not allow paragraphing. ................ Dear Estelle .................Your intentions might have been for the best, and might have been an attempt to answer the fact many people (including myself) felt that the efforts of the members who do all the research on the GR boards was unacknowledged and undervalued by the company. In fact, it often seemed that our volunteer labour was being used as an advertising point, “see all the help you will get in furthering your research on our Community boards” , with no mention that it was other members doing the helping. ............. All the helpers do it because they love the hobby, and feel they have expertise to pass on. .............. However, as a professional editor, I see very clearly that when a statement is made that a certain small group of helper members are recognized as "Genes Advisors are not employees of Genes Reunited, they are members recognised by us for their effort and knowledge when helping other members.", then this implies that they have been selected because they are better than anyone else. .................. This then impugns the members who have not been so identified. The separation into one board for the Advisors, and other boards for everyone else also helps to indicate the separation. The yellow star also helps fuel the implication that there is something extra special about these people. .......................... It may well lead to helper members on other boards being told by requestors “you are not recognized as a Genes Advisor so you must not be any good”. ................... As I said in my email, there are some excellent helpers who did not wish to be labeled as an Advisor. They are the ones who can ferret out information to help break down brick walls, who can think outside the box, who have an instinctive or intuitive feeling that something is correct when it seems that it is not (or vice versa). I look in awe at some of the research they do and results they achieve! Yet they could well be told they are no good. ................. What I think was wanted most by the people answering the survey was a statement somewhere, on both the site AND in your advertising, that the help given in researching ancestors was done by members helping other members, and not by GR employees. ................. This all came about because every helper has on at least one occasion been mistaken as an employee of GR, often with the statement “you have to help me because you are paid to do so”. Or “what do you mean you can’t find anything, you’re an employee”. Or “why should I say please or thank you, you’re an employee and paid to do the work”. I have to say, I’ve never understood that last one!! Everyone deserves politeness!! .................... As for the yellow pointed star, yes, you are right, there is a difference in the number of points. BUT the fact remains that there are several people upset and offended by the connotations. ............... I did attempt to answer your last email to me, giving you my reasons for turning down your offer to become one of the Advisors, including some of the things I have said in this email, but I had been blocked and the email was undeliverable according to my server. ........................ NOTE:- I did reply direct to your email to me, but it was blocked once again. ...... NOTE NOTE:- This is my third attempt to contact you in response to your email this morning

Hi Sylvia,
I REALLY find that sad !!
I have a 'deep down' (VERY deep down) feeling that Estelle and her colleagues would really like to improve things.
BUT, they are so 'far off the mark' that they are doing harm rather then good !!!!!
Let's hope they get something sorted soon !!

Someone posted a request on Help Clinic, got a bit of a run around and then posted a thread on TTF, where I tried to help
www.genesreunited.com/boards.page/board/trying_to_find/butterfield/thread/1249960
This was at the end of his posting today:-
Only really posted this as I thought we now had experts on the Help clinic. I have access to local records (still live in the area), but had run into a dead end and thought they could find out a bit more! I'm also in contact with a lost relative in NZ who has tried in the past to get further back but failed. I think its a lost cause, but thanks for your time
