Oh yes I really want to add a comment...but fl*ck now knows who she is not sure about the others. I cant understand her there are a couple of threads where there is nothing more to find but she will keep nudging them up??

Posted this question on the Tips board and "The Clinic" a nice non stary person answered me within 1 min on the open tips board I am still awaiting a reply from the clinic.


I have used this site for a number of years mainly to record and add to my tree. I have also both gratefully recieved and hopefully given help on the boards.

I am concerned that the changes and glitches happening at the moment and the difficulty I am now experiencing navigating will compromise my stored data can anyone tell me how I can export my data to another site please. I would hate to loose the info that has taken so long to gather and authenticate.




So what is the clinic about if they cannot give this kind of info why call it the clinic why not just call it what it appears to be at the moment the Scotish records access point!!!

Trouble is they have not actually said what help you can ask for have they?

What we are led to believe it is if it cannot be found on GR, FMP or scotlandspeople they cannot answer only advise where it could be found...I think

Any problems you have with the site you are meant to email them direct, which I think is all wrong

I think there's a lot to be said about a name you would expect a Clinic to solve a miriad of problems.

I have had so much help with the difficult to trace people in my tree from the wonderful people on here it seems a shame to present a Clinic as all seeing when it just doesn't work that way I liked the old system you put it out there and people brain storm you can then take from that what is relevant and carry it forward

I think they could lose a lot of good researchers if this carrys on, although at the moment people are still helping with the queries on the help clinic mainly like yourself they are being posted on the other boards too.

I dont know about you Karen but although I am pretty new to this compared to others I am on here every day and some of the advisors I have never heard of (unless they have had a name change perhaps)

I agree most of the people I have had help from appear to be very upset by this whole thing. The clinic advisors I have not really noticed and as my son calls me a cyber snooper I think they would have been noticed----- I need to explain I tend to look but not interact unless it is relevant to do so ----- I have been ranting to my poor family about this for about a week now it actually hurts to see people treated with such disreguard weather intentional or just bad business

Does anyone agree it's spookey how quiet it is on here its like this site has lost its mojo please don't give up people your work is IMPORTANT & APPRECIATED!!!

being overseas, I'm usually looking on here from somewhere like 7 or 8 pm to 6 or 7 am UK time


There used to be lots to do, and people to chat with

It's been so quiet and boring since last Wednesday


OH's response when I try to tell him the problems on here, now says "why the heck do you stay? If it was me, I'd be off there and using another site"

He just cannot believe the mess.


I love helping people, and as many people know, I was one of 10 people offered the chance by email 2 weeks ago to become Official Advisors.

We ALL turned it down for various reasons ....... my main reason was the forced use of only 3 sites. None of those sites in my experience will solve most of the brick walls that have people stuck.

Those helping now all replied to one of two stickies put up by GR asking for volunteers .......... and it seems the choice was made on a "first come first served" basis

Like ja...x, I have not seen most of those advisors on the boards, at least not under the names they are currently using. Of those I do know ....... they are very nice people, capable, and have given good help, but not when restricted to using only 3 sites!

But there is at least one that I really have to wonder about!


Having said that, I did get some good help with a Scottish problem .......... and they even found that the father that I couldn't find in Scotland might have been actually born in Lancashire and then his family went back to Scotland.



I will make a bet with you ...... the reply to your posting on the Clinic will be along the lines of "take this up with Genes Support" ........ and that postng may well be from Genes itself rather than one of the advisors.

I appreciate anybodys trepidation at becoming an unpaid official voulanteer on any forum . What people do as a hobby! when asked to commit x amount of time one would not want to let people down to have to adhere to 10 hrs per week may be something people allready do but would not want to let others down ie holidays sick days just plain old don't want to be bothered days please don't let this upset ,ruin a good thing starting to sound patronising now but please please all you wonderfull people out there don't give up you are the back bone of this site without your guidence many newbies would give up at the first hurdle

I also entered NumbNuts as the 'Surname' in my first post (changed it from the xx)..........nothing, no change, nowt what so ever

most people seem to be having trouble changing names from what has been assigned to them by GR ............... including the nameless ones and those wild and woolly "symbol" names
