Bit quiet round here innit?

Glad you're okay Dea.........nothing wrong with your appetite then?

Actually, I'm a bit peckish myself but can't settle on what to have.

My Inbox is very tardy too Janey and has been for a while.

It's really cold here but soooo hoping we miss the snow. Wales can keep it.

My inbox, Cynthia, isn't tardy -- it's an Error message. Every single time I click on it, and sometimes for half a dozen reload attempts.

FBG, do you want to know anything more about O'Brechts in Canada? There are only about 30 phone listings for the name, all but a handful of them without the apostrophe. In 1911, they're mainly clustered in Bruce county (east of Toronto on Lake Huron) and Wellington county (southwestern Ontario, I think, near where I come from).

If you are not 'up for that' - I cooked 'Tater Ash' earlier for grand-daughter!!

More familiar to you from that part of the world AND delicious it was too !!

Lots left - given most of it to my daughter-in-law but have enough to share with you !!

This lot are from Mount Forest.
Edwin O'Brecht was Wilf father and Ellen?Corcoran?(Irish and RC?)his mother.
Eldest sibling of Wilfs was Marie then 3 boys then Wilf,so some should be on 1911?
Only just started poking about tonight though.

Hi Dea, have settled for a milky coffee, a Flake and the biscuit tin!! Thanks for the offer though, you're a very generous lady.

Am I the only one on here who has never owned a cat?? Dogs....yes. Wouldn't know where to start with caring for a cat and I tend to be a bit cautious around them. I can just hear Janey saying...."well that explains a lot!" lol

Night Dea and thank you for the meal. You were right of course. It was just what I needed. Hope you both have a peaceful night.

I HAVE got a v. hectic weekend ahead I must admit, so may have an early night......didn't sleep too well thinking about my friend. Have got daughter and granddaughter here for the night which is lovely - they are helping on the speciality coffee stall I am running tomorrow.

How do you know if a cat is interested in you????

Dea

Dea Report 26 Nov 2010 22:01

Yuuukk - I don't know, but if it IS interested in me - I really don't want to know .

Sorry to all the cat lovers but it does not 'do' it for me!!!

It wont keep away from you Cyn,winds itself round your legs, pushes its face into yours when on your lap, runs to the food store and comes back and meows at you.
Curls up on your fav chair when you have at last fed it and then does a nice big smelly poo in the corner of your bedroom later to say thanks.Oh...AND IT RIPS YOUR CARPET TO SHREDS TRYING TO BURY THE POO..

Any good..?

Cynthia Report 26 Nov 2010 22:09

Oh I'm definitely a doggy person Dea....(why aren't you in bed madam?)

We have had quite a few over the years - all sorts and sizes from Yorkies to a Rottie/cross - wonderful, brilliant dogs all of them. Lost one tragically (turns me inside out when I think about it) and the worst part is when they reach the end of their lives. I am a total wreck. I can cope with funerals....but the loss of a dog devastates me. I am a strange person I know!!

Just watching the news about the snow in Wales.....they don't half talk funny down there....

slap.

Cynthia Report 26 Nov 2010 22:12

Granddaughter is curled up and looks sleepy. Bedtime for us methinks.

Sometime tomorrow.......

I will return.

I have cousins in either Forest or Mount Forest, I can never remember which. I think Mount Forest, and my mum's cousin there is 80ish. And No.0 the classical guitarist of old comes from and is back living in Listowel, which is just down the road from Mount Forest. I'll ask him whether he knows any O'Brechts.

It's a weird name. It reminds me of the hockey guy Bob O'Bilovich, whose Eastern European name got spelled that way by an apparently Irish immigration officer when he landed on these shores. ;)

There's one in Walkerton now, which I think is around that area. Yeah, about 20 miles northeast of Mount Forest. My long-ago best friend used to teach high school in Hanover, just a couple of miles away, but she's gone I don't know where now, so can't ask her!

Hey jax -- check out the wall at the GRFB page. Remember the ~~ one? She's paid a visit there.

edit -- oops, my mistake, she says she's not that one. Just another one of the ugly, cowardly posse of snipes in the ugly, cowardly fan club, I guess.

Boy,they are rather prolific these OBrechts and Corcorans.
Got the marriage of Edwin OBrecht and Ellen Corcoran.Marie and one sons birth.
Followed back to 1871 on the Corcorans so far.
Edwin OBrecht is with gran and grandad on 1901.
Been correcting every one of the wrong transcriptions as I go(You can be proud of me !)

Yes please on looking for living rellies.
Must be some somewhere I would have thought.

Will email you in a day or so with some more details if you want.

OBrecht is German, thats where grandad of Edwin says born on 1901.

But stopping now as Im tired.

Just started doing this for one of those WI talks coming up early in the new year.
Got lucky as the lady has some good detail to start me off with.
Just putting together a little something for them to discuss at a later time if they want is all I do,and its more interesting for them if its one of their family...
Like to show off a little, and a Canadian one makes a change !
