I can't get into familysearch.org frontwards, backwards or sideways. Maybe I should do that old cache-clearing crap.

Black snow? Who's got black snow?? What's that, volcano snow???

Janey

did you get any snow today, or yesterday?

I hear London, Ontario, had massive amounts

I had no problems getting into family search

London Ont got buried. It wasn't like that when I grew up there -- the snow belt apparently shifted after I left. ;)

My little sister broke her leg falling off a snowbank on the side of the road shortly after.

On CNN this a.m. they actually showed that bit of Canada on the weather map -- a dark blue band stretching across the SW Ontario peninsula, covering London and I guess Kitchener-Waterloo, and all points around.

Got stuck in the snow belt on Xmas eve some years ago. Left Toronto too late with my then beau, driving his company cargo van. A maelstrom of snow and wind. People were driving off the road into fields all along the 401.

We stopped to pick up two loads of them -- a family with toddlers dressed as if it were Easter, and a retirement-age couple who were in the median ... and the husband flatly refused to come with us. In the two minutes at a time we were out in it, loading the people into the back of the van (only boxes to sit on, but traffic was only going about 10 miles an hour), I thought I was going to die from the wind. But Mr Man was going to wait for a tow truck, a truly brilliant thing to do in that weather, which was literally deathly in not too long a time. If your car stalled and you couldn't get heat ... if the snow blocked your tailpipe and the CO backed up ... totally moronic and unforgivable thing to do to his wife.

We made it to the service centre in the middle of the snow belt, Woodstock, just as people were starting to pull in there. Eventually the restaurant was so full of puking children and the like we just went out to the van and lit candles. But we stayed with the older woman until her fool husband made it in, so she wasn't alone. I could've punched him.

About 2 a.m., we were able to head back out. I've driven in some fine snowstorms since, but I don't think I'll bother again if I decide to drive in future.

Oh, and my mum was chortling the other morning -- apparently Buffalo NY got 60 cm overnight! That's exactly two feet, for the foreigners. Buffalo really has been getting hit hard in recent years. Like the snow belt in SW Ontario, it's "lake effect" weather.

Janey - we've got black snow - it's when it's piled up by the roadside and it's turned all black - no volcanoes in Whitley Bay!

What do they dump on the snow to turn it black -- or what turns it black?

Here it takes quite a while for old hard snow piles at the side of the road to turn black just from road air pollution.

There are only 4 Florence Thynne's on the 1911 and that is the only one that fits unless there was one that married between 1911 and 1925? Just checked and there was'nt
