Hi Penelope, Yes iv'e scrolled through the free BMD looking for her birth without any luck. Also tried obvious derivatives/spelling mistakes for Bellett. Can't think what else to try? David.

David ******* Sorry David - I don't know what to suggest next - apart from - I would order the birth cert for Rosetta Pretoria Bellett Bethnal Green 1900 Dec and specify that I only want the cert if the father has Alfred in his name. That way if it's not the one you are seeking you will just part with £3.00 rather then the usual £7.00. At least you could then completly rule that out. After all Alfred might of been a Charles Alfred or Alfred Charles. The other possible is that she was born out of wedlock and then took Alfreds name. Do you have a christian name for the mother or does your rellie have any ideas? Anything, getting desperate now...The other possible is to locate Alfred (if it is definatly Alfred') death certificate and see who the informant was and address occupation etc. Pen x

Hello again Penelope, We think alike. The GRO did a search for Rosetta's birth for 1899 and a year each side, looking specifically for Alfred Bellett as the father, they found nothing. Son Peter b.1935 lost both his parents within a year when he was just aged 17, so his memories of the family have faded some. He has their original death certificates and he is the informant on both. Rosetta's shows her father's occupation as 'a Shoe Factory Porter (Deceased).' Stange as they never married yet they lived as a family untill their deaths, maybe as you suggest that really wasn't her name?? He has no certificates or names of grandparents so I think these would have gone to her siblings. Peter lived with 'auntie Nell' for a few months after his mum's death then joined the RAF. I've had no luck searching for her either! I guess we may not solve this untill 1911 census is released! Thank you so much for your input, David....

Trouble is about that time they decided to add the e to their name. Some seem to be born without and died with.I have only got info from BMD on Edwin's marriage. Could you please find info on Isabel Hack(Another sister)born 1851 in Westminster although 1881 states born Plumpstead but that is where the family moved to married to Charles E Hack. 1891 and 1901 Census.
