Hi Karen I would really appreciate a lookup from your 1851 and 1861 Ongar census disk. I have on the 1871 census an Alfred and Elizabeth Pizzie living in Nine Ashes, High Ongar. Alfred is age 40 and listed as born in Stondon Massey and Elizabeth is age 38 and born Norton Mandeville. I am trying to find out who Alfred's parents were and if there are any other Pizzie families in this area. Many Thanks Regards Sharon

Karen Report 4 Oct 2004 23:06

Hi Helena Sorry no sign of Thomas or Mary Ann. If you have their marriage certificate, what are their fathers names? I can see if their fathers are named as there are other Mays and Goffs mentioned. Karen

Hi Karen Thanks for looking them up for me. I was hoping to find Alfred with George and Ellen on the 1851 census, but nothing is ever that simple is it! I am pretty sure that Alfred is their son as the name is so unusual and they seem to be the only ones in that area, and also Alfred's eldest children are called Ellen and George! I will have to get a lookup from someone with the 1841 census and then maybe i can prove my theory. Thanks again. Regards Sharon

Hello Karen. Can you help me with a brick wall I have please. I am trying to find a place, not a person. I have an ancestor whose place of birth is given on the 1881 and 1851 censuses as South Amwell, Essex. I can't find this place - it isn't a spelling error or a transcription error, as it's on 2 censuses, 30 years apart. This place is obviously very small, and is part of a bigger parish. I'm wondering if you have an index of places with your censuses that might list it. I see from your leader message that you have a name index. The surname of the person I'm after is Anderson. If you can help me at all I'll be very grateful. Helen

Karen Report 7 Oct 2004 21:37

Hi Jenny Think this is your Joseph :- 1851 - HO107/1775 Folio 436 - Chelmford Joseph DORMAN - 76 yrs old - Born Ketten, Rutland Theres no other Dorman's under the same folio number. 1861 - RG9/1079 Folio 153 - Chelmsford Joseph DORMAN - 86 yrs old Theres no other Dorman's under the same folio number. The 1861 surname census index doesnt list where they were born. Hope this helps you. Karen

Hiya Helen Sorry South Amwell isnt on my disks. Have you tried do a thread asking if anyone has heard of this place? Another alternative, which could be quite lengthy as you said that youve found them on the 1881 census is to keep doing next household from your families household until you get an address which isnt South Amwell which may help you locate where it is. Good luck hunting. Karen

Hi Chloe Sorry no sign of your Elijah Newman. Castle Hedingham isnt on my disks though, so he could still be in that area. Sorry I couldnt help. Karen

Hi Karen Could you possibly do another lookup for me from the 1861 census disk please. I have just had a lead on one of my Reeve families. On all other census's apart from the one i have just found him on Harry Reeve born 1864ish is listed as born Broomfield, and have been unable to find the family living there. I have just found him on the 1891 census listed as born Chignal Smealy. Could you look to see if his parents James and Sarah Reeve are in Chignal Smealy in 1861 please. Many Thanks Sharon
