Hi Linda - thanks so much for finding Eliza Taylor widow, and her family. This will narrow the search for the death of husband Thomas. The daughter Alice is Martha Alice, so it all fits. She was with Sergeant Berry by 1873 I reckon as they had a son that year. Would it be possible for you to look for Sergeant (Sargrant he spelt it!) Berry in 1871 please? His first marriage was to Harriet - don't know when she died, but in 1871 he would have a son James Berry with him at least, aged 12, and perhaps other children. Many thanks......Doreen.

Lynda, I've got goosebumps, so it must be right ! Definitely the right area - right next to White City. If William is 8, that would mean Clara was 14 when he was born ! I know he was illegitimate, but blimey ! They had him down as 15 and her as 33 in the 1881 census. It couldn't say 3 for his age could it ? Thanks a lot, Rick.

Rick Well perhaps they just started young in those days, some do now don't they? The 8 I suppose could be a 3, but the top is an o shape but the bottom left is open, does that describe it, so it's like an 8, with the bottom left missing. The enumerator seemed to do different style writing for each number. Make sense? Lynda

Lynda, Please could you email the image to me ? Without me going into too much detail, a lot hinges on when William was born. My best guess from everything else I know is that he was born in 1868 and would have been 2 or 3 at the time of the 1871 census. Thanks a lot, Rick.

Hi Lynda, Thank you for your e-mail and for checking David Benjamin for me. In 1881 Frances Benjamin was head of household at 12 Angel Court Strand. Census Place - London, Middlesex, England. She was living with a Charles Benjamin, Maria D'Argent, Gustave D'Argent and Gustave Adolph D'Argent. They did seem to live in Marylebone most of the time There child born in 1858 is down as being christened at All Souls, St. Marylebone. The birth place on this census for Charles which was the last born child in 1864 says London St. Giles, London, Middlesex, England. Sorry to be a pain but when you are looking for him would you see if you come across another David Benjamin. It may be his father. On the 1881 census he was 86 living on his own at 22 Baches Street, Census Place - London, Middlesex. Many thanks Georgina

Hi Lynda, Thats brilliant. It has also given me two children that I didn't know about although one I thought I knew about is missing. But place of birth for David really helps. I'm sure the other David Benjamin you found is the right one because he was on his own on the 1881 census at 22 Baches St. Census Place, London, Middlesex - that is all I've got. He was 86 on the 1881 and has put himself down as 'W' under Marital Status. He didn't have anything down for where born. At that age he probably couldn't remember. Many thanks again. Georgina

Evening Lynda ! Now that the index has been updated I'm looking for Boyles again in Strand/Clerkenwell/Westminster. William Ansell Boyle,60,solicitor Eliza Ann Boyle,similar age Youngest kids, Robert & Herbert Edward might still be at home and also maybe an older daughter, Edith. Their son had not yet married (at least not to my GG grandmother), but could be living elsewhere in the area: George Arthur Boyle,28,landscape painter in oil By the way, the Marshalls you found last night are definitely the right ones - I've got about a dozen of my cousins and aunts and uncles involved with this too & they are all very excited and very grateful for your help. Thanks once again Lynda. Sad that Eliza must have died fairly young - I think William lived to about 80 - he must have spent 30 years on his own. I've got a great photo of George Arthur looking down on me in my dining room. He might have been off painting a masterpiece somewhere in 1871 ! I know he spent a lot of time in Lewisham - hopefully the index will eventually catch up. Cheers, Rick.

Lynda, My mum's got a really small one in her dining room. My nan gave all of the big ones from her loft (!) to her uncle Geoff.
