Ooh Dea, that looks spot on apart from the age.

No, looked at the image, he isn't 24 I reckon, but 29. Look at the enumerator's style.

Now can you do the same with the 1901 census for John?

We want to find John Wilson who is not with his wife Emma and family, but the 1901 census that she is on says "Husband on HMS Wye". We assume he is Carpenter, and need to find out where he says he is born.

I have looked at the census listings for Vessels for Hampshire, and the Wye isn't there.

The 1901 censusonline has HMS Wye. There appear to be only 4 people on it, none are John Wilson or anything remotely close.

Sorry, I have been looking all morning but can't find him on 1901!

However, I did have a thought............

Emma is a widow on 1911, living with son John + daughter Dorothy. BUT - Christina is a pupil in the Royal Seamen & Mariners Orphan School, St. Michael's Road, Southsea.

I wonder if it would be possible to trace any records from there as they may give some detail on her father or at least when he died?

I am not sure how to go about this but I am sure someone will know.

Soory again Guys & gals..

I have been so busy past 2 days..I have not been able to follow up on here..very sorry.

I had my physio yesterday..andso wasn't on later..to tied..then today I had to go for another blood test..and then I had to complete my paper round.
And as you cam imagine being tied from yesterday..and today..I am very tied now..and in pain.

I could just scream...!!!

Again ..I'll run an eye over the sizable amount of relpies and see where we are....
For give any tyoing errors..my hands and finger are one of my main arthitic areas...so mistake are made..and ofen...

I know how you feel - do you end up with a big black/blue/yellow + purple bruise every time you have your blood test - I do !!! - I hate it!

Just gone back on steroids myself as had severe breathing problems yet again so sleeping (or trying to) sitting up in the spare room - hopefully back in bed tonight.

Thank you Dea for your kind words.

I was on steroinds..injections and tablets...but I am no longer on them.
Becuase my white blood cell count is low..I have been told not to take my meds until a new blood test (this morning).
But as Im not taking anything otehr than blood pressure tabs and Paractamols....the pain is coming back....

I am taking Amytriptolene for the sleepless night..not really working as yet.
Life really does suck sometimes.

Anyway...Yes I have looked at the 1911 census..and found that Emma was a widow and some of the kids are in homes of sorts...as you had pointed out.

Anyway, when you are feeling a little better I think the Orphan School Records might be a useful line to follow.

Perhaps someone will leave some ideas for you on here as to how you might follow that up?

If it turns out i have the correct cert..that might be the marriage of Agnes & William were looking for...but right now...it appears we are still not yet convinced I have the right cert..

But neverless might help exclude other possibilities..and cut down the search..

The family in Sheffield Barracks is unlikely to be yours. I know Sheffield Barracks - now a shopping centre!

Dea, the school is a good idea.

Boogie, do you know what happened to the girls of the family? Dorothy and Christina. It might be worth trying to trace them, to see if any living rellies know if their father John came from Liverpool.

If you go my the names on the Certificates you have then it is the Scottish marriage that you need

Following the Scottish rule of calling first girl child after wife's mother

But Ellen we aren't at all sure now that we are looking at Agnes McCaskie. We are trying to work back from Boogie's grandfather John b 1894 in Portsmouth, to John Wilson and Emma. We currently have no idea where John was born, we only know his father was William, a shipwright.

We have to now think of ways of finding the service history of John Wilson with the Royal Navy, or his daughter's records at the Orphan School before we can even think about tracing his father.

Boogie, perhaps you should edit your post at the beginning to explain that Agnes McCaskie might not be the right wife.
