Ancestry are emailing me offering FTM 2006 for $19.95 (£10.78)ish. I have not as yet been able to establish which package this is. There are at least seven different packages starting with a Programme disc £20.65 upto £59+ including other CD's. Is this a good buy or is it better to purchase it from S & N? Margaret N

Blimey, that seems good value. Dont bother getting the one with the cds - its info you probably dont need and can get elsewhere. Check out the my-history website for a comparison chart, but just the standard one will do you or the deluxe. I think I got the deluxe - it has a charting companion - I havent used that yet! I just checked and my-history have my one for £25 so yours sounds a good buy.

Hi kids, (shifts in chair to make room for yet more notes in knickers). Im not an expert on all this and I have to say I am lazy and should REALLY read through the tutorial and try the help button on the program! But, my little mate Glen turnips in his pants asked this the other day and I think Maureen answered?? I know that I now cut down the number of possible by going to the top right hand where it says something like edit criteria? If you click on that you can customise what you are looking for to some extent. But I think Maureen has a message about this further down this thread - have a trawl.

Heather and all ;;; You can cut down the us ones coming up so much by making sure you put England on the place of birth address at the end as you would if sending abroad;;:;;;; Suffolk England;; I found that that worked a lot;; Babs The other one that hasnt founf the tutorial to read;;;Hehe or the Charting companion;;

Heather

Heather Report 7 May 2006 23:44

Babs, I think you must be sneakily reading the tutorial on the quiet, you seem to know more than me now! (not that thats difficult). Actually, I think its nice that we can all share the probs and how to overcome them on here, cos it actually goes in doesnt it.

Borobabs Report 7 May 2006 23:51

Sure does Heather;; Yes at least if we come on here we find out some know a bit more than us and it keeps us all up to speed with using it;; Wish Maureen and the other lady had replied on how to see that dam Companion though ;;;drat; Babs

Babs - why dont you start a new thread with it as a heading - as you can tell from some of the messages on here, people often dont read every single one of them. Im off to bed now. God bless, nite, nite.

Charting companion is a separate disc. Are you having problems with it? Heather

A hint passed to me for reducing American results clogging up the searches works well. When you search you can select which records you want (bmd,census etc).If you select 'customise' you get a dropdown,then you can select from over 800 bmd databases,of which less than a dozen are purely England/Wales. Census databases cover 1841/1901 and you can select just the England/Wales instead of all the American ones etc. It cut my results for my Elmer family members from over 5000 to just 350 ish. You can add or remove which databases you want very easily and make them 'suit' your needs. Glen

My Charting Companion (wherever it is now!) came on a separate disc, in a cupboard sheath thingy with charting companion all over it. I think it did - as I havent seen it since it arrived!
