hello to you all, not been on for a while as lots going on and a few trips away.
Many thanks for the lovely cards that have been delivered Ann, Sylvia, Nadine,Issy, Lizz, Carole, Lynne Jaquie and Flo.

Hope every one is keeping well, I managed to come back from the UK with a cold as well as bag fulls of goodies :))
Have a daughter coming over for Christmas then mid January we are off to Canada.
Planning to set up a small craft group in the Gite in the New Year as there are a few people interested and nothing about locally.

Hi Ros, not mine, they are red or green. I know there is also someone on FTF who has a card that is not signed so no idea who it is from it it is a white card with a silver square and pretty turquoise snow flake. So if you recognise it let Carol Ann know!!

Hope mine all arrived safely to everyone, annoyed as the post office said they needed large stamps on!! said they did not go through the slot easily. Never heard anything so silly.

Weather dull!

Hi all,
Cold, cold, cold, and no end to it, oh maybe snow then it will have turned warmer. Perhaps a white Xmas.
My ex son in law and his wife came in today to wish Johan luck at the hospital tomorrow. They are off next Sunday to France where they have rented a house together with two more couples, plus one son and girlfriend. With two good cooks amongst them they should be ok. They will go for long walks, (in the snow?), play cames indoors etc. Sounds to me a wonderful idea for them all now that most of the children have left the "nest".
See you all tomorrow.

Evening everyone, hope you are all keeping well and on top of your Christmas preparations!!

Sylvia, how is Johan, hope everything is going well for him.

Ann, I have had to pay excess on 2 cards, not Christmas ones though they were birthday cards for OH. I was a bit miffed as they were only a couple of mm wider than they should be. The person who sent them just assumed that they were normal A5 cards. Think some more of the shops should put warnings on their cards if they are large stamps, I know M&S do.
Vicky has posted on the other site that Craft Central has gone into receivership and is selling everything off with very large discounts. We don't have one here though.

Raining here again this evening, where has all the frosty weather gone wish it would hurry up and come back.

Well I am pleased to say Johan is now out of hospital. He discharged himself as the doctor wanted to keep him in the weekend. It does save me a lot of time him being home as waiting around for taxis is terrible this weather. You see we use the cheap taxi available to us and we share it with anybody else who wants to go.
My neighbour is still in the room next to where Johan was. He is not in such a good condition, one day in a normal ward and the next in special needs for heart ward.
I still have to marzipan and ice my Xmas cake, but will have more time now. I have wrapped most of the Xmas presents.
My scootmobile broke down on the way home from the market yesterday, and I just managed to crawl home. I have phoned for help and they are coming on Monday. If they cannot repair the scooter on the spot then I get another to use temporarily.
Johan came home from hospital by taxi and I went downstairs to meet him and pay the taxi as he didn't have any money with him. I shut the front door with the key on the inside. I was lucky Johan had a key but there again we couldn't get in as I had left my key on the inside. Fortunately one of the helpful neighbours managed to push my key out and we got in.
The second day I was here on my own I blew the fuses and the main switch went out. I couldn't find a match or lighter of any description. This meant no telephone, no computer, no nothing. I went again to another neighbour and she pressed the main switch and lo and behold electricity.
Why do these things happens when Johan is in hospital?
Bye for now.

Aah Vicky was ahead of me. we always visit (or did) Craft Central when we go to our daughters as it is/was just around the corner from her, attached to a Wyvale Garden centre. We went in there friday to be told they were under administration, the staff were upset because they only found out from the garden centre.

anyway, they had a table full of ex demo things so first off I picked up two aperture punches for £1 each (about £7.99 new in hobbycraft). Then Tony spotted a box which was marked at £10. It is a Spellbinders Wizard embossing and die cutting system, including some embossing plates and one die. Looking on line they are over £90. So I think I got a few bargains there. oh yes, also got five peel off stickers for £1. fel quite pleased with myself, just got to learn how to use it now.

Sylvia, glad Johan is out of hospital and hope you can get your scooter fixed.

thank you to Carol Ann for my card.

Hi all,
Well Johan went to the shops himself today and picked up his two new pair of glasses. Now he can see his Xmas presents better!
Our neighbour who was in the ward next to Johan is coming home tomorrow.
I was going to go out today but changed my mind. Will go out tomorrow and that will be the last shopping until after Xmas.
My daughter is disappointed we are not going to her for Xmas but Johan is not comfortable at the moment. I have promised as soon as we can we will spend some days with her. My two grandchildren are going to their mother for Xmas so it would have been nice to have some of the family together.
Have a nice evening and see you tomorrow.

Morning everyone, hope you are all well. Weather miserable here again, not like Christmas at all. Wish it was lovely and frosty, hate this damp weather.

Lovely to hear that Johan is up and about Sylvia, make sure he doesn't do too much. My oh is back at hospital this afternoon to see a different consultant and have more scans and tests, hope everything goes well.

Well, are you all ready for Christmas, I have most things done, except two stocking fillers that were ordered that have not arrived so off today to try and replace them. Food shopping all done so that is a relief as everyone is coming here for Christmas. Just have all the presents to wrap still.

Hope things are going well and you are all ready for Christmas

Thanks to everyone for the lovely cards I have received they are all so different and look fantastic. I can see I need some lessons from some of you!!

syljo Report 23 Dec 2008 21:45

Hi all,
Well that is the shopping finished. I am staying home now until after Xmas. Tomorrow I'll just tidy up a bit as when I am busy I just drop everything and do essential things first. My hairdresser comes in the afternoon. Ah, I feel the peaceful day already!!!!
I've bought a piece of marinated turkey. No more cooking whole turkeys and having to think of what to do with the rest of the turkey. I have lots of different vegetables in the freezer, so not much work there.
In case I don't come on tomorrow, I would wish you all a Merry Xmas and Healthy New Year.

Thank you all for the beautiful Christmas cards. I'm sorry I haven't managed to send out many this year, and I'm very sorry for the birthdays I've missed this year as well.

It has been very hectic since March this year when my mother-in-law had her fall and was hospitalised for the first time of many. Hopefully she is well on the road to recovery now, but can no longer live on her own and so is now living with us full time. As many of you will know, this means major lifestyle changes, and my time is no longer my own and I haven't been able to make as many cards as I would have liked. My study/craft room is now M-in-L's bedroom and I've had to move all my craft stuff to the boxroom. Unfortunately this boxroom is also home to OH's model railway so most of my stuff has had to be packed away in boxes until we get time to re-design the room layout. When things settle down after Christmas I should have a clearer idea of whether it would be fair for me to continue to participate in the Birthday Girls group. I sincerely hope that I will be able to as I really love making and receiving cards and inspiration from all of you.

Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and hope that 2009 brings you all you wish for.

Hi all,
So it's me again.
Another day of visitors and stopping me from getting our dinner on time. I cannot moan as I love visitors, but I do wish I had done something towards the dinner beforehand. This time it was my ex son in law and his wife. He has just come back from France where he spent Xmas with friends in a rented house with open log fire and dishwasher, roomy bedrooms. They went snow boarding but are not really sportsmen/women and don't want to do it again. It was just an experience.
They were telling me that the French are not so Xmassy minded and saw little in the shops etc. to remind one of Xmas. Germany, on the other hand, do a lot with Xmas so they are thinking of going there next year.
I've been tidying up my craft room and put all the Xmas bits and bobs away and the birthday bits are handy.
Our Xmas tree is losing its needles fast but I want to keep it another week, but must clear it up before my birthday.
Bye for now.

Evening all. Well unlike you Sylvia, I have had a very quiet day, with no visitors, first time for a week. Must also sort out all my crafting bits, put them all away in rather a hurry at Christmas and did not put them back in their correct places!! Will keep my tree up till new years eve and take it down then. Just something I have always done since my father died.

Sue, stick with us I am sure things will improve for you and you will get back to card making if only to help you to relax and switch off.

Weather has been so cold again today think it was more the wind chill factor!! Nearly froze when I took the dog for his walks.

Take care and keep warm. Joxx
