~~~~~~~ to mamiddau... yes, I am busy watching 3 men at work.... one is hubby.... the other two are professionals, and far too polite to tell hubby to get lost, lolol!! I have a digger, a turf cutter, and lots of other bits of mechanical equipment that haven't been unloaded yet.... 6 days they say it will take... can''t wait, and then planting everything into place afterwards will be lovely, too.
I am just acting as tea-boy!! Oh, and HL's wife-to-be brought him his lunch... and brought their 5 month old son to be cwtched and cuddled.... he is going to be a heartbreaker, mark my words, lol.... he is just gorgeous!!
Good afternoon Daff Life in your garden sounds to be really good ;O) we've been out working in ours the last few days and it's great to see everything blooming, potted up a few baskets and making new herb tubs. I love this time of year don't you?
{"he is going to be a heartbreaker, mark my words, lol.... he is just gorgeous!!" }...I take it you were referring to the baby lol
Anyway you sound on top form at the moment and if the weather in Wales is as good as it is here it won't be long before you're sitting in your wonderful garden sipping Pimms...mmmm
Enjoy making the menfolk cuppas :O)
Afternoon Daffers and all!
I do hope the weather stays kind to your Hunky Gardener and his willing (?) mates! 6 days isnt long is it? the excitement must be too much to bear - I'm really envious of you and cant wait to hear how things progress.
I've just had a laugh - went out to do a stop of weeding, and went onto the next door's driveway to pull up the dreaded bluebells that seemed to have appeared from under my fence!
Little lady next door (must be all of 26 and has new baby in tow) came along and said "you dont really need to do that you know" (obviously meaning - you are old, I'll do it - lol)
Then she says "I love those flowers - they are so pretty!" pointing to a plant on her front patch of lawn She was only pointing to one of those very tall weed things that has a pink flowers and then flully head that spreads all over the place - cant think of the name!
She said "I noticed one of them on your garden last year, and thought I'd try to grow some on here!" pmsl Bless her little cotton socks!
My nose is still running - it could run for England I'm sure and I have now resorted to Piriton tab.in the morning, cos I'm not sure it aint a touch of the old hay-fever although never suffered before. Nuisance if it is, cos I need to be out there weeding!
Found two more lilly bettles yesterday - mating they were - on my prize asiatic lillies - needless to say they were despatched p.d.q. I like to think their last thoughts were likely to have been pleasant ones)))))
Keep on brewing Daff - sweating, glistening hunky gardeners (and assistants) need to be topped up regularly!
Bi for now
Daff, found out a bit about the house from the web. It is the Cologan family mansion, still in the family but looks as though it is boarded up. She is a Marchionesse, he is the president of the European banana growers association I think. A very important family. Agatha Christie based her book The Man from the sea on the area around the house, and the cyprus tree walk opposite and I think one of her books was actually set in the mansion.
Morning everyone... wet and miserable here today... I hope it brightens up later. They want to lay the patio area and the paviers to define the borders... but have decided to put the fence up instead, as the concrete won't set in the rain.
R has gone off to work... he has aching muscles where he didn't think muscles existed, poor lamb, lol
Jude... I do hope you haven't got a cold, it is so miserable when you have family staying and you feel rotten.
Hi 007 1/2... lovely to see you, and thank you!!
Maz, I'd love to go there... have a great time.
Jean, I hope by now J has been down and is back up again.... take care, and thinking of you both xxxxxxx
Wmsl laughing Jac... you have made me spray my tea!! I really love one weed... smells like cat's wee so I don't have it too close, lol... but I always allow one to grow to adulthood every year... I call it stinky Robert... it has Robert in it's proper name, but I can't remember what it is. It has lovely little pink flowers, and when those die down, the delicate foliage turns orange and red, stunning for months before it dies back. I only have 3 lillies this year... I will keep an eye open for the beetles.... mating or otherwise, lol!!
Mau, we sat in the garden last night, drinking wine, and surrounded by gardener's paraphernalia, lol.... digger, thumper, tipper truck etc!! We still thought it looked lovely!!
Ann, that is so wonderful... I knew it was good enough to write a book around... shame dear old Agatha got there before me, lolol!!
Mamiddau, you're too late.... they've gone shopping, lol!! ;¬))
See you later!
Love
Morning Daff, typical weather, especially when you,ve got loads planned for your garden!
I was reading about the pretty weeds, I had to ask my neighbour about one thats spreading in my garden, I thought, "how pretty, how lucky am I, and I didnt even plant it!!, needless to say ita a flippin massive weed! Duh!!!
Well, I have my "sleep deprivation" test tomorrow at 9.30 a.m.( I cancelled the last one, as Lin was coming the following day). So lets hope I can stay awake?
Now this flipping screen is playing up! All the colours have changed, even my screensaver of my cat is blue!! and she's not a persian, just your run of the mill tabby! LOL, Never mind though, as long as I can stay on here during the night, I dont care what colour it is!!
Jude,
You may as well blame me for your cold! Hope your feeling better today though.xxxxxx
Love as always
MrDaff Report 27 May 2009 13:17
Taff, good luck with your test tomorrow.... and I once read a definition of a weed... *Any plant that is growing in a place you don't want it to be* so if you like it, and find it attractive, then don't let anyone deter you from growing it!!
Mamiddau, that is very kind of you, that is!!
I have looked it up, this weed of mine that I love so much... and it is medicinal!! It is a clever and useful little plant, so it will never be called a weed in my garden again. It is called Herb Robert and it is on this site...
http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/herbrob.htm
I just love google, don't you??
I am looking for deep shade plants now... one of my new borders is in deep shade all summer, not a chink of sunlight, although it will get some in the winter and early spring. Off to google some more, lol!!
She bought us a blackberrry, Himalayam Giant....onyl been in a fortnight and nearly doubled in size....supposed to be really good fruits....and lots of em!
Hi Daff, deep shade, think woodland plants. Hellebores, bluebells, Daffs probably, ferns, some hostas.
Ann xx
MrDaff
MrDaff Report 27 May 2009 18:25
Hiya Ann.... I have been furiously googling, lol!! I already have some hellebores Thank you!!) ... they can go in... and I'll sort the geranium/cranesbill that I have... it will do well there, I think... So.... this is going to be my little woodland spot... it is blocked on the one side by a shed, and the other by a dirty great big horse chestnut!! I'll get some hosta... it is only a small area, but once last years' compost has matured a bit more, there will be another, matching one on the other side of that fence.... and some light coloured paint for the shed and fence....
Taff!! How on earth are you going to manage all night??????
Mamiddau... I am trying to get rid of my blackberry... well it isn't mine, but it has invaded from next door... they like the *wild look* so have never cut it back on their side. The thing is, it is a wild one.... and the fruit from it isn't worth writing home about, so it isn't worth hanging on to. *sighs heavily*
I'll be back later... must go and peel the potatoes, as R will be home in an hour or so.
Love
Daff xxxx
