Well done everyone, I think portion control is vital when dieting, when we are out I have childrens' portions or two starters(one as a starter and one for main course) It's not easy exercising in this weather, but I am on day seven of the Squat Challenge, just done eighty Squats OMG! YAY!

It is a rest day tomorrow. :-D :-D :-D

Good luck Jules. Monday is the best day to have your weigh in as most people cheat at weekends but if you are weighing on Monday this doesn't happen so much.

Cooper Report 29 Jul 2013 13:56

Hi everyone :-D

I have at long last lost one stone :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

On my 50th Birthday in March I was 11stone 10lbs, the heaviest I have ever been except when pregnant. My lowest weight since I had my youngest 14 years ago was about 10stone 10lbs. This was three years ago and was after my Dad died so I suppose was due to stress rather than dieting as such. I have been to every slimming club known to mankind and had a gym membership for many many years. I spent more time in physio than I did the gym and been in a state of misery with the weight. I would gain and loose or loose and gain the same half a stone or so. All I was loosing was cash really. It would have helped if I had followed any one of them properly!

However, on the 4th of June I had got down to 11stone 6lbs, weight loss was 1lb per month :-S :-S :-S :-S :-S

So, I cancelled the gym membership, threw out all the slimming club stuff (except the SW cookery books. The recipes are really nice in them) and decided a new approach was needed.

I discovered Zoe Harcombe on line, bought a couple of her books, one of which was a recipe book and two months later have lost another 10lbs. At last I am 10stone 10lbs. I'm not very tall so will try and see how I look with another 7lbs off and go from there. I was 9st 7lbs when I married 23 years ago but it was a struggle to keep it off even then.

I think this thread is a great support and along with Zoë's book I feel my head is in the right place now :-D

Good luck to everyone here. I'm sure we can all loose the weight we want with the diets and support we are getting.

Good luck for tonight Jules.

Paula if I was doing squats I would need a winch to get me back up :-D I have physio this week for a disc prolapse. They are trying traction :-S sounds like something from the medieval times. Its NHS though so must be a normal thing.

Hi Cooper...CONGRATULATIONS... you must feel very pleased with yourself and rightly so.

I hope to follow your example and lose a stone. I am 5'10" so i think a stone maybe enough but I will happily review that WHEN, not if, I get there.

Keep up the good work and don't let it go back on. Just remember how hard it was to lose it in the first place.

Cooper Well done and congratulations on what you have achieved. I am very lucky that I can take part in all the activities that I enjoy, the Squats are getting a bit harder every day though. I have to do 100 tomorrow. Good luck with your diet, it's whatever suits you best and what works for you.

Well done all you Ladies, especially Teresa a stone, fantastic :-D

I maintained my weight at weigh, not surprised as I have had some sort of stomach bug, won't go into detail, but when I started to feel better I had some things I wouldn't usually of had, like sugary drinks, just felt like my body needed it, back on track ow, so hopefully a loss next week. I am working in London fro 3 days this week, and next, will have breakfast and lunch before I go, and will wait til I get home for dinner, I'm hoping I won't need to eat anything while there, but will take fruit in case of hunger :-D Good Luck to you all for the coming week, will try and pop in to see how you are all doing. Wendy, if you lose on Wednesday, you'll be ahead of me in the first week :-D

Hi Linda I should lose in week one and I have been good food wise but have done very little exercise. Sorry you have not been well it does mess with your diet and will power. I have got nine weeks before my next lot of family arrive and I have to buy biscuits etc so I am trying to see how much I can lose before the but will be happy with 1-2 lbs a week.

Well done Jules on another pound in the right direction.

Cooper

Cooper Report 30 Jul 2013 16:48

Thankyou Ladies :-D

Jules 1 stone 10lbs is a fantastic amount to loose. Try putting tins in a carrier bag and weighing them until they reach 1st 10lbs. Then try and lift them up. You will be amazed at how heavy it is.

Hope you are feeling better know Lynda. Sometimes the body needs a bit of sugar after a bug.

Paula have you managed the 100 squats today. Its a bit cooler today as well.

I have been writing a food diary Wendy, when the weight loss has slowed down or stayed the same I can look back and see where the damage has been done. Its for my eyes only and I have been truthful with myself about what I have eaten. On a couple of days even I was shocked how much I had munched my way through. I must have had eating amnesia :-S

Chicken salad tonight. Its been raining here all day but getting warmer again now :-D

Weigh in one. Week one. A loss of exactly 2lbs. My scales go up in .2 of a pound. They also measure body fat which I would really like to get down but need to exercise for this. At the moment it's too hot for this.

I am pleased with the loss but I should lose after the first week. Week two won't be so easy.

Thanks paula. I will be going back to my TaiChi/Extend Sessions next week. Hadn't been for six weeks because of going to a Falls Prevention Workshop.

Looking forward to seeing my friends at Tai Chi on Tuesday.

PollyinBrum

PollyinBrum Report 3 Aug 2013 11:22

Tess I agree with you about Tai chi, it's good for deep breathing and relaxation using slow and gentle movements, nothing too strenuous. I understand there are more vigorous postures although I have never personally done any of them. In addition to the health benefits recent , studies have shown that tai chi can help people aged 65 and over to reduce stress, improve balance and general mobility, and increase muscle strength in the legs.

I hope you enjoy your class.

Apologies if you are under 65, I am of course referring to my self
:-D ;-)

I have lost 2 stone 2 lb since 1st of May. I have 4 more lbs to lose and I am at my target weight. Then the hard work really starts "maintaining" I dont going to any slimming clubs but I do have a secret ;-) ;-)

Tenerife Sun

Tenerife Sun Report 3 Aug 2013 13:15

Hayley. Very well done, a brilliant achievement only 4lbs to go :-D

Tessa. NOooooo come back when you've lost the next pound and the next etc however long it takes will be worth it.

I met a friend for coffee this morning and she goes to a Curves gym. It's not strenuous the machinery is hydraulic and you can control the intensity. I'm joining her on Monday for a free session to see how I get on. I need more exercise I think I've got my food intake under control now. ;-)
