Sheila, I remember one RE teacher who was really nice but can't recall her name - unfortunately she had breast cancer and the kids found out and were horrible with her nicknames from then on. I had Mrs Farrell for French, she was nice too. In Spring Onions I was in Miss Andrews class - I decline to comment on her. LOL

yes, that was the lady. Mrs Powell. Unfortunately I never had the chance to know what she was really like because she used to take one look at me, point her finger towards the door and shout "out out out" lol I never did find out what I was supose to have done to her! I dont remember any of them from Spring Gardens..infact the only thing I can remember is the house next to the school who used to sell cherries to the kids ,oh, and the sweet shop round the corner. My uncles small wood work shop opposite and the walk up the alley past Gomes and Ercolls back to my house in Terryfield Road. I think most of it has gone now though? Sheila

Mrs Powell, that's it. Never actually worked in her class, I just copied stuff out of books and kept my head down - always got good scores with her though. Don't know Terryfield Road - had a look at Streetmap the other night and a lot has changed, loads of new roads where I didn't think it was possible to put a road, they pulled my parents house down, along with a couple of others, and made blocks of flats instead. Lovely old Victorian houses they were too - plenty of space for a growing family and oodles of garden. I haven't gone back for about 5 years now, even though we sometimes stop in Aylesbury for the Record Office - I really don't like what they've done to Wycombe.

Susie, yes, ruined it - positively ruined!!! In fact they've wrecked it. (In my opinion anyway) LOL. Have seen the LDS centre on Hammersley Lane when I've put in searches on the comp. Think they had a great big church type places there back in the 70's, I think it was them anyway, they tried getting my grandfather to join them but he wasn't having any of it.

well yes it was probably miles up the hill but it was the nearest secondry school, I havent been back to Wycombe in years, except for a funeral last year,( the wake was at the Irish club) and it felt like I was in a set of a very old film! Very strange after 24 years away from it all....Spring Gardens deralict, no bridge opposite,most of the furniture factories gone the roads seem smaller and the Rye shrunk (or is it me being bigger! lol) I used to go to Tuesdays Disco in the 70's anyone remember that place lol My cousins left Wellsbourne about 1972-74 Sheila

Blimey Trish, not only did we go to the same schools but we have the same birthday!! 5th April Susie, I have wonderful memories of Tuesdays..young, free single and not a care in the world.....those were the days lol

Sheila, was Miss Hancock the head or was she the assistant head? You wouldn't have started when some of the boys lifted a teachers car and "parked" it between two trees so that he couldn't go forward or reverse.

Trish, I'll dig out one of my old reports (mum kept them not me!) I remember Miss Hancock and I think youre right but will let you know. That sounds like the boys of Hatters lane to do that ! In the last year that I was there we had alot of Hatters Lane v Cressex fights going on in town (which was wonderful for people shopping)...one girl got pushed through a shop window!! Sheila

Ok, Miss Barford was head and Miss Hancock Deputy until 1976 when Miss Hancock tookover. Mr Mills was headmaster at Spring Gardens when I was there. And now Ive looked at my school report's I dont think Ive got a leg to stand on when it comes to my son's turn lol Apparently, I could do better! Sheila

Thanks Sheila, Miss Barford - yes, never could recall her name. I know I was scared of her - and so were the others. Remember Mr Mills fairly well, my father was working for the Council and it was his job to find any heating faults at schools in the Bucks area and get someone to sort them out - messages got passed on by me both ways when I was there.
