Sheila, wonder if your mum ever served me! Before I worked in Bellmans (on the clothing side) I worked in Boots, first on the soaps, talcs etc, then on the hair section. That was in the days when staff were at each section and knew what they were talking about when customers asked a question!! Not that I'm saying anything about how big stores run themselves these days!!!! :-))

Devon Dweller Report 1 Apr 2004 18:45

you probably served me then lol...we used to all meet up on a Saturday and Boots was one of the stores we used to go in, to check out the latest make up. I used to work in Chelsea Girl. Sheila

Sheila,I vaguely remember Miss Powell too. I started HL 1961 and left in 1965.Isn't the school known as Highcrest now and could it really be worse! I remember Murrays,my mum was a cleaner there many years ago, I also remember Bellmans. I left England in 1972 and the Octagon? was in its infancy. Can remember Richard Shops and Etams.

Susie I haven't got any jeans but I sometimes go to J. Lewis in my gardening clothes, looking like a tramp. I guess my beard intimidates them. Watch out for my 13 year old Rover 820 whizzing up and down Holmers Farm Way. Its ruby red. Give me a wave. I had forgotten about Murrays. Used to take my kids there to see the clock going up and down the stairwell. Len

Not too sure but I think Murrays went in the late 70's.

I think Trish is right about Murrays. Used to take my kids there when they were small. Now they have kids. It was when they built The Octogon in its present form, Mary did have a good day on the 31st thank you Sarah. Wasn't she lucky she didn't wait another day to be born ? I gave her 5 books and a cameo necklace and we got through a bottle of claret with our dinner. My - don't you get up early Len

Devon Dweller

Devon Dweller Report 3 Apr 2004 23:16

Murrays was still alive and kicking when I was there so I would probably get lost in the town now!

I've seen all the (very) old photos of the Frogmoor fountain on the net and it looked spectacular. Why did they ever remove it in the first place? Nothing to do with it but I had rellies in the 81 census that lived in Frogmoor Gardens, was this a side road to Frogmoor?

Len of the Chilterns

Len of the Chilterns Report 4 Apr 2004 22:19

The water feature is certainly appreciated in summer by the children. They have a marvellous time running in between the water spouts, trying to anticipate the timing. They often have an audience- which the old fountain never achieved. Pity we can't post pictures on here. Len

Len, have you come across the Bucks site yet? It's brilliant, lots on genealogy and tons of old photos. Go to http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/index.asp

If you go to the Bucks site don't miss the page on Aylesbury prison - they have the prisoners names, photos and record.
